He has to. Irving/Booker/Jackson/Chriss/Whoever they can get at Center would be a lineup with good potential. I think they could still trade for Drummond.

 

For the record: I would NOT trade Dame for Kyrie. Dame obviously is untouchable - unless we get a Kawhi type of takent in return.

For conversation purposes....

Kyrie arguably has the best handles right now in the NBA. Some pundits have even said top-10 ...ever.

CJ has some of the best handles and isn't too far behind Kyrie in that department.

This backcourt would be fun to watch ....and impossible to guard.

Cleveland got better imo, Kyrie is the best player in the deal but Cleveland filled some holes and got a good pick

 

The value is fine in a vacuum if this goes through, but the draft pick doesn't help them beat Golden State. By the time it becomes a meaningful player (assuming they pick well), LeBron may be declining or gone. I'd probably rather have Irving over both Thomas and Crowder. Crowder helps them, giving them a two-way wing, but not enough to overcome the downgrade from Irving to Thomas. As bad as Irving is on defense, Thomas is even worse. And I'd trust Irving more offensively against playoff defenses.

In fact, Cleveland might not even get past Boston if this goes through. I wonder if this trade (again assuming it actually happens) is Cleveland basically conceding James is gone next off-season--otherwise, I can't see them trading their second-best player to their biggest conference threat.

 

The pick can be used to be packaged for a better player.

 

I agree, IT and LeBron should be a pretty sweet uptempo combo. Crowder would help out as well.

 

I think they're going to hold onto it and rebuild when James leaves. I can't think of a top contender ever trading a star to it's biggest competition (within the conference). I don't think they expect to remain at the top of the conference, because I don't think they expect James to stay.

 

Lebron won't leave....he has a cakewalk to the finals in the east and they just got better.....as he gets older, he'll probably retire a Cav and end up owning the team one day. I mentioned in another thread.....the Lakers are generating this Lebron buzz through the media....all projection..will Ball want to play with Lebron articles....pure bs in my view

 

I think Bron is 60/40 to leave, however if Cle wanted to parlay that Brooklyn UNPROTECTED #1 next yr pick into another high caliber player - they also now have the flexibility to do that. And that could help them keep Lebron - especially if they could beat GS

 

I don't agree at all that they got better. Crowder's a nice fit as a role-player, but Thomas is a significant downgrade from Irving, IMO. Especially on defense. Losing that much defense at point guard (even over Irving's uninspiring defense) is more meaningful, IMO, than the defensive upgrade of Crowder over JR Smith or Shumpert (I assume Crowder will play the 2 in Cleveland, since they have James and Love for the 3/4).

 

They have to outscore the Warriors....they're not winning grinding out games Memphis style and I think they know that..

 

You always have to outscore the other team to win. It's just harder when you're giving up more and more points. Golden State has a great defense to go with a great offense. Cleveland has a mediocre defense to go with a great offense. At best, their defense stayed the same--IMO, it got a bit worse.

 

speed is the difference...and you have to score a ton of points against the Warriors which the Cavs couldn't produce consistently....the Warriors have to chase IT around too...the faster the Cavs play, the more it taxes Golden States defenders...and they never get tested much in terms of pace....now, maybe they will

 

I don't think the problem was pace at all. Cleveland played at a very fast pace in the Finals--people questioned Lue for doing that since it seemed to play to Golden State's strengths. And why would fast pace be harder on Golden State's excellent defenders than on Cleveland's poor ones (outside of James and now Crowder)? Golden State loves up-and-down games. If anything, it's going to wear James out, since he has to play huge minutes for Cleveland to be even remotely competitive.

 

Cavs couldn't do it consistently....and score enough....when the slow way down GS kills them with the 3
