You don't think the President of the United States knows when his own airplane is being flown up to New York for a photo op??? That defies imagination.
Personally, I don't. I think there are a lot of things going on that the President doesn't have time to keep tabs on. Public Affairs, I would surmise, being one of them. I think his security team knew that if there was an emergency they would be using 29000 instead of 28000 (or vice versa) as the escape plane, but I'm willing to give the BoD that when he found out, he recognized it for being pretty dumb and was legitimately "furious".
oh yea, blame Obama for everything just because you like to be cranky on a message board. I, being someone working in NYC, don't put the blame for this on Obama. I can understand the fear everyone had and while I wasn't here in 2001, I was at Grand Central a few years ago when a steam pipe exploded in the street and thousands of people all believed it was a terrorist attack, it was utter chaos and very frightening. I think it's awful that people where scared by a stupid photo-op, but i'm not so petty as to point the finger at Obama, the man who was "furious" when he learned what had been coordinated by someone else. I guess people, and by people I mean sour grapes conservatives, will just pick any old reason to whine.
Good God. What an EPIC FAILURE!!! Whoever dropped the ball on this one deserves more than a firing. Those poor people. It's obvious 9/11 has far from left the consciousness of NY'ers.
Who is blaming Obama? Jesus christ people..... read my post. I was merely pointing out that if this had happened during Bush's presidency, he would have received personal backlash. I can guarantee it. Yet, because it was during Obama's Presidency, there was no mention of Obama's name other than a brief message that he was not on the plane. It's no more Obama's fault than it would have been Bush's fault. I'm just illustrating a point.
By the look of the responses in this thread, it's obvious your attempt at illustrating a point was very poor. Bush would not have been blamed for this if he didn't FUCKING know about it. I'm an independent, and I consider myself fairly neutral when it comes to Bush. He oversaw Rumsfeld's epic failure after the initial invasion with no specific counterinsurgency strategy to note. When it came to this election I didn't like either candidate and I still don't. Why does it always have to be Bush against Obama? Bush did an "okay" job in my opinion. I haven't liked what I've seen from Obama as of yet. The point of saying how Bush would have been treated had he been in this situation is inaccurate in my opinion.
When I was at the coast I was flipping through the channels and I accidentally stopped on Fox for a second... must have dropped the remote or something... but in the 5 seconds I was there I heard them mocking Obama for flying a jet to an Earth day something... you have got to be fucking kidding me... seriously... wtf
Sorry, I just had this image of President Obama in the WH residence looking under the couch cushions and saying, "Michelle, have you seen the keys to Air Force One? I hope the girls haven't taken it out joyriding again."
Regarding flying a jet to an Earth day something... it's irony. Like Al Gore flying a private jet to a global warming conference, burning more fossil fuel in a few hours than a medium sized town consumes in a year.
This is what Bush's pictures look like, nobody killed him. They would of had to find him first, he was too busy hiding.
Actually, it's very much like that. That airplane is reserved exclusively for POTUS, and it exists only to transport him around. If it's going to be "loaned out" for any purpose, I would think the President would need to sign off on it.
