OK, ABM is not in jail (although with him I'd never rule that out), he's not doing anything illegal (yet), he hasn't found a new board (rats!). He just has a new hobby I can't talk about that is taking up most of his spare time. Will he be back like he was. I hope so, but that may not happen for quite a while.
Are you considering the entire system? Many of these technologies can just be a matter of creative accounting. The air doesn't just compress itself. That takes energy. Not only does it take energy, you have to do an inefficient conversion. Electric vehicles don't even have that issue. I'm not quite sure what you mean by "100% self sufficient". What does that mean in this context?
What I mean is this: Compressed air vehicles currently have the capability to be the cheapest and less emissioned vehicle. The oil it uses is vegetable oil. Granted, at present they are not safe and something has to be worked out with the compressor. But the potential is far better than electric cars with the mercury batteries or hydrogen vehicles. As such, I think it warrants serious consideration for further development. Imagine a vehicle that creates it's own compressed air while one drives it's own compressed air. Hey, if Al Gore can invent the internet, then this technology can be advanced! ok, that last line was a bit much...
We'll need to create a new global energy strategy that involves invading countries with huge reserves of air.
Seriously dude that's not possible. The video was completely wrong in what they said & actually goes against the laws of thermodynamics(and no, these people haven't found a way around those laws). The generator they talk about is essentially a compressed air engine hooked up to an alternator which produces electricity, not more compressed air. Since the generator is essentially the same thing as the car engine, they both run on compressed air making the whole perpetual motion idea stupid to begin with, even if you want to ignore thermodynamics. As I said, this is a car that runs off of a novel way to store energy(for a car). There are pretty big energy losses taking a fuel or electricity and converting it to compressed air stored in a tank. That energy has to come from somewhere e.g. bio-diesel, gas OR electricity(coal, natural gas, hydro, nuclear, solar, wind farm, fart power...).
What if it was charged by solar power? For instance you have your car charge all day in the light and only drive it to and from work? At that point wouldn't it be essentially a self-sufficient vehicle that runs on solar, electricity, and air?
What's this email rumor I got that ABM died when his compressed air car compressed? How do those things get blown up anyway? Do you blow them up like a balloon? Like an inflatable float in a swimming pool. Why not just use jet power from the escaping air? No need to convert compressed air to piston power. They could name it the pssstmobile.
You'd be lucky at the end of the day to have generated enough power to get yourself out of the parking lot, much less get yourself home. Large motor home solar panels generate about 130 watts per hour in direct full on sun light. Cars take thousands of watts worth of energy to move around. For example the Toyota Prius can suck up to 27,000 watts per hour when operating off it's electric motor. The new Toyota Prius does have a 56 watt solar panel which it uses to aid with ventilation & climate control. That's about all solar can muster as far as transportation.
"Oh, I would while away the hours, Wanking in the flowers, my heart all full of song, I'd be gliding all the lilies as I waved about my willie, If I only had a schlong." — Christopher Moore (Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal)
Since we're talking cars, here's a short 4 minute video of Google's smart car technology. Pretty damned amazing shit. http://www.ted.com/talks/sebastian_thrun_google_s_driverless_car.html
I blame the national air reserves for some of the stupid shit our politicians are saying. Some would suspect that all the air in the reserves was harvested from their places of residence.
First, that was crude and just flat out uncalled for. Second, that was also darned funny. Third, I thought about a rep, but just can't do it.
