Why the hell do they not give you more fouls in OT? You get one foul for every 8 minutes in regulation. Why is there no consideration when teams play an extra five? For the life of me, I can't understand why this isn't more widely considered. Reminds me of the 4 OT game we had last year in the playoffs-- lucky we didn't get burned then.
Maybe it's like chess where if you get a pawn across the board, you get to choose one piece to trade it with. So 1 player gets 1 more foul. I can't see them giving everyone 1 more.
Portlands success has always been attributed to big men. The NBA has always held the Blazers down by fouling them out, technicals or otherwise.
im with ya. Ive always wondered the same. If you have fouled out in regulation, your out. But if you didn't you get one additional foul.
You can’t change it. If you star player fouls out in the middle of the 4th......should his team be rewarded and allowed back IN the game? No sir.
The team is playing more minutes. Should be allowed to return only in OT. Like Nurk yesterday fouled out late in the fourth. Should allow him to return only in OT.
I could see a variation where maybe the team can choose to have extra penalties like techs if that player fouls again. I'm just trying to keep star players on the floor more, especially in really compelling, high action OT sessions.
How is that fair to the opposing team? Imagine if the Blazers worked to get a particular player out of the game only for him to return in OT. Makes no sense.
I get where you are coming from. Maybe if there is a 2nd OT and only if BOTH teams can bring back one player. What about that?
See, I'm with you in theory on your first post of the thread but definitely not on this one. Since the OT is only five minutes and you only get one foul per eight minutes in regulation then if we were to implement the additional foul in OT, you would need to expand the OT to eight minutes. However, if you foul out, you're out. No take-backsies, if a guy doesn't manage his fouls in regulation he is disqualified from the game OT or not.
I feel like overtime is about ending the game. If you got 5 fouls in 4 quarters you put yourself in that situation.
