Harkless is still largely unproven. Upgrade is very much debatable. Aminu and Davis were arguably our 3rd and 4th best players last year. You want to get rid of them both for one guy that really doesn't do much more than either one we already have? Makes no sense. Maybe a one for one, possibly, but why are you trying to make the team worse?
There aren't enough minutes for all the big men. Aminu and Harkless are both better suited to play the 4 which gives us too many inside players
Doesn't matter. I'm still not giving up two players for one that isn't really better than either. Don't you want a fair return? You don't make a trade just to free room. you make sensible trades based on who is performing and who isn't. Everyone has said it. As far as problems, this is one of the best to have and there is no need to be hasty. Let it play out. Patience is a virtue.
Olynyk is one of my favorite players (not to take him away from Zagger), therefore I think that he actually is an upgrade
Dont let personal fandom get in the way of actual skill and talent. Don't get me wrong. He is by far no slouch or scrub, but he is a role player that we have plenty of. Its like having three suits all the same. So lets trade two of them for one suit that's still the same as the first. Now we only have two suits and got nothing for the third. Being a favorite player doesn't make him better or my boy Leonard would be MVP every year! But I understand. You would gut the team to have your favorite on the roster and I bet your not alone when it comes to personal favorite player.s I would have trade Clyde for Payton. Paytons my fav. I probably would have been lynched in this town for saying that too.
Why exactly do you make that particular claim about Harkless? His stats last year certainly suggest that he's better at the 3. http://www.82games.com/1516/15POR9.HTM#bypos Other seasons in which he's played significant minutes show the same result. http://www.82games.com/1314/13ORL8.HTM#bypos http://www.82games.com/1213/12ORL9.HTM#bypos So, I ask again--why would you say Harkless is better suited to play the 4 than the 3?
I have no idea why you even wasted your time proposing this. It's not even remotely possible. Olynyk makes $3,094,014. Aminu makes $7,680,965 and Ed Davis makes $6,666,667. You'd need to add almost $10,000,000 in salary coming back from the Celtics to make this trade work under the CBA. The only players on the Celtics roster who make that much are Al Horford (who that aren't trading) and Amir Jonhson - another big man. So much for your consolidation trade. Adding both Olynyk and Jonson would actually maker our font court logjam even worse. At least Aminu can, and will, see minutes at the 3. Olynyk and Johnson can only play the 4 and 5. So, the only way to make this trade work would be to ship out a 3/4 and a 4/5 and get two 4/5s back. So much for consolidation. Of course, Boston could keep Johnson and send back even more players, but doing a 2 for 3 or 2 for 4 trade, given our current roster situation, makes absolutely no sense. It's the exact opposite of a consolation trade. I'm with dviss on this one. Even if it were possible, I would not consider, for even one second trading either of Aminu or Davis straight up for Olynyk. Trading both (if possible) would be absolutely insane. They are both far better rebounders than Olynyk and at least as good defensively (I say better as they are more versatile defensively). We'd be shipping out 16.7 ppg and 13.5 rpg and getting back 10.0 ppg and 4.1 rpg. Olynyk does not fill a single need we have. He's a weak rebounding big that floats on the perimeter. His 10.7 TRB% puts him squarely in Bargnani territory as a rebounder. Yuck! We trade our starting 4 and an elite rebounder for a weak rebouding bench player. No thanks. BNM
So, go look at the Celtics roster and tell me who else they add to the trade to make the salaries match. They can't JUST send us Olynyk. The salaries don't even come close to matching. They either send us Olynyk and Amir Johnson or Olynyk and at least two more players. Both scenarios make playing time issues even worse than they might already be. BNM
Well, they could always send Johnson and a 2nd round pick to Philly to make salaries match. However, as you said, we don't benefit from dealing for Olynyk, so it's irrelevant.
Maybe they have cap room? Or trade exception? They can add Jerbeko at 5 mil. Maybe another player or two (Jordan Mickey?), some fillers
Philly adds yet another big for merely a second? Would take another team. Boston is probably not going to add salary for next year anyhow. That is part of the reason KO has not gotten an extension.
Boston used all their cap room to sign free agents (like Horford). Any trade exceptions they might have had would have had to have been renounced. And no, adding Jerebko would not be enough to make it work. It's OK to just admit that it was a bad idea.
