So the answer is contraction - get rid of teams and consolidate talent. I mean, that's the only way for the league to catch up per Silver.

10 strong teams and 20 weak teams. More competitive balance and solve the rest days problem, 2 birds one stone. Whenever those 10 teams play one of the 20 it's basically a rest day!

Silver sounds like a dumb person.
He can't admit to his mistakes and take responsibility because people at the top don't do that, i get it.

Personally, i would rather speak honestly than sound like a dump person.

What Silver is saying is basically: "Poor people, stop complaining! start living!".

And you people thought Trump was bad.

How is it his responsibility? The league wanted to smooth the cap rise after getting all the TV money. The players association did not agree - and GSW had the good luck of having a relatively low payroll for their big 3 and having the cap jump so they could sign Durant. The only way this is Silver's fault is if you consider going and getting the massive TV money a mistake. There is not 1 person in the NBA that will support this position.

Adam Silver is full of shit.

Try telling Minnesota, or Toronto, or Sacramento, or Denver, or Portland to go build a superteam. The next time one of those franchises signs a free agent like Durant will be the first.

    Not gonna happen.

It was a once in a lifetime confluence of odd events - the best, perfect fitting player becoming a free agent the year that the salary cap jumped one time by 30%.

No team can match them because that's not ever happening again.

Nearly all NBA owners could afford to pay the luxury tax 10 times over, year in and year out.

It was invented simply as smoke and mirrors to keep from paying players their fair share of the profits.

Any owner that refuses to pay for quality players regardless of the cap (Paul Allen) is cheating his fans and will never win a title.

Telling small market franchises to go build super teams with a salary cap and few free agency options.... It's like telling a wrestler to gain muscle mass while cutting weight.
Guess Silver got to say something, I will say I agree with dviss though. Silver is light years better than Stern. David Stern I wouldn't put my confidence in if he was the last person on the face of the earth. What a duplicitous little shithead.

I just like that a team without superstars can pop up and contend...2004 Pistons....bunch of cast offs.....Billups was tossed around for years without much attention...Sheed....every once in awhile a team like that locks in and shuts down the big market teams. Hopefully we can become that

Golden State drafted Curry, Thompson, and Green without top 3 picks. They should be rewarded for that. If any other team were to do the same thing, an elite player would probably want to play there.

Kudos to GS. Teams should draft and trade better, cry less.

If we could just get some quality depth on our bench I think we could make a run. It's depth that separates the contenders from the pretenders.

We should have paid that guy to be in our corner years ago. My guess is Olshey wouldn't want the extra help but "Zeke" could be our Gene Michael. The man who knows everything about anything related to the sport itself. The old dude in the mob films who works as a rest room attendant and gets the 100 dollars handshakes for the secret info.

I tell you one thing. The artist who used him for the logo sure knew what the fuck he was doing.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
As Wojnarowski points out, the Warriors didn't even need the cap spike. They could still have cleared enough cap space without it, by sacrificing Andre Iguodala. So the cap spike didn't net them Durant--it netted them Andre Iguodala. Which is still nice for them, but not quite as dramatic.

The Warriors basically planned well, drafted well and got a nice piece of luck in taking a risk on Curry's ankles and having it pay off in a comically underpaid superstar. None of this is the fault of the league--either the commissioner or the players' union.
