How is it different than what Melo’s contract is reported to be?

No, I thought he was saying that Olshey learned that when you sign an injured player, you give yourself an out. I'm glad that Olshey did learn that. I was just saying that he didn't learn to be careful about signing injured players period. I can't really criticize Olshey much here though; we aren't hurt much except the absence of enough healthy big men has contributed to a very slow start.

But was able to waive him after 15 games because he put a clause in the contract.

I wasn’t being sarcastic. Every signing/transaction carries some level of risk. My point was that Olshey protected himself this time. Signing Pau Gasol for the minimum, even with the injury, was worth the risk. He would’ve helped. Sucks, but at least we don’t have any lasting ramifications like we did with Ezeli.

We have a lot of young players and bringing in a 39 year old Pau was a smart move …..I think he'll give us more as a coach at 39 than he would on court hobbled. We've needed a player/big man coach since Kim Hughes was fired...Olshey was smart to waive him right after signing Melo to save money and open up the roster spot

I'm not sure that's true. No website I've checked shows his salary as being non-guaranteed, so I'm not sure the tax is dismissed. I don't know how it was "protected"....maybe. But it might just be one of those contract clauses that gets Portland out of a portion of salary due to injury that doesn't impact their cap or tax position. IIRC I've seen a couple of those types of clauses in the past

I’m not sure it’s true either, but it seems likely. If his contract wasn’t fully guaranteed because of medical concerns, then only the guaranteed part should count as team salary.

This falls under the Exhibit-3 rule. The only way you can waive a player using this rule and not still owe him the remainder of his contract is if there was an injury prior to signing the contract that was written into the contract that if it is reinjured or there's a setback or is taking much longer than agreed upon to rehab then you can actually void the contract. As long as it was written into the contract then the Blazers get out of it.

Instead of bringing in a re-tread, why not bring in someone from the G-League. Guys like Kendrick Nunn and Christian Wood could help the team right now and they came straight from the G-League.

Can I start a petition to sign Eric Mika? A bit older (24) than most from the '17 draft. But has some experience, plays smart and works hard. Terrific scorer, good rebounder and really decent defender. Also overall good guy.

    20 pts/ 9 reb / 2 blk / 53%fg / 76% ft in college with BYU.

Played two seasons in the Lega Series A in Italy, and did well:

But also 'wasted' two years as a mormon missionary, if not he'd probably have been in the league a bit more on 10days/2ways. Sacramento kicked the tires a bit on him earlier this year, played well in SL.

This season he has started 6 games for the Stockton Kings in the G-League. Stats: 19.7 ppg, 16.2 rpg, 3.2 apg, 1 bpg, 54.2%fg, 71.4%ft, 37 mpg.

The last time we picked up D-League all-star types, we tried Tolliver in 2009-10 and Chris Johnson the next season. But we needed experience fast, so they didn't last. Same as now.
