    ...^^^ yup, and I'm still waiting for the other poster to either explain or dispute this;

    http://oakland.athletics.mlb.com/oak....jsp?loc=beane

"Under his watch, the A's have compiled a 1396-1194 (.539) record over the last 16 seasons, which is the third-best record in the American League and fifth best in all of baseball during that time frame. The A's have six American League West titles (2000; 2002-03; 2006; 2012-13) and secured one AL Wild Card spot (2001) during that span. His teams have posted 90 or more wins in eight of the last 14 years. The A's seven postseason appearances since the 2000 season are tied for fourth most among all Major League teams, trailing only New York-AL (12), St. Louis (10) and Atlanta (9)."

...but only because the A's have not fared well in the PS, Beane should not be considered a very good and very competent GM? He's a very good evaluator of talent and widely regarded by many to be one of the very best GMs in the game.

.you admit you can't quantify that the results "would not have been any worse"...but you're sure the results would have been better?...great pretzel logic.

    _________________________________________

    "Can't quantify"? "Can't quantify?"
Don't get cute with me...I'm on to your word games.
I did say it couldn't have been worse (imo)...
....and speaking of comprehension, if I said and BELIEVE it couldn't have been worse....most normal grown-ups would have figured out that it WAS WORTH THE CHANCE. dope lmao
Here are my exact comments from the above post (#18) you tried to quote from.

Just moving Tex alone out of the 4-5th spots would've been an improvement for this lineup...and you gave ME a hard time? lol

Here genius -QUANTIFY THIS: Tex' 2nd half stats .179 .271 .302

The results wouldn't have been any worse (IN MY OPINION) than the usual stand pat approach Girardi used and it could have indeed "lit a fire" under some of the guys.

Read it again... it could have indeed "lit a fire" under some of the guys.
No guarantees, of course. dope. could have

But it was WORTH A TRY.

Now get the heck outta here, I just clobbered you again.

Is he broken down and declining or does he need a fire lit under him? Again, the sluggers didn't perform and frankly nobody hit on a consistent basis on this team. Next year a healthy Beltran should go out and have a good season. Will that mean he had a fire lit under him?

    memo to '59

Allow me to quantity a couple of things:

Tex hit 2 HRs in August, and 2 HRs in September with a grand total of 12 RBI for the two months.
His OBP was .276 in August and .256 in September.
His SLG% was .307 in August and .301 in September.

Was that Joe's fault? The guy is just in decline & apparently doing very little to make adjustments & help the team.

Its a shame Joe can't set up a cursing jar, you know, you say a curse word you put a dollar in the jar. In Teixeira's case, every time he doesn't take the extra easy hit to an open left side of the field Tex puts a thousand or 5 thousand into a jar for charity.

    ..."quantity"?...huh.

...and I'm pretty sure everyone is well aware of Tex'x offensive shortcomings...not exactly news.

...for the umpteenth time, and as pointed out by others, even if Tex had played better or even if he had been moved down in the order, it would not be enough to offset the others who under-performed. Should not be a hard concept to grasp.

...ditto on it not being Girardi's fault...fwiw, the "curse jar" is a great idea.

Not for nothing also but this is an old team. Going into next year who isn't 30+?

...there's quite a few actually, and with Kuroda, Jeter, and Ichiro leaving, I think the oldest will be Beltran. The average age will go down quite a bit. I don't think they'll be as "old" as some other teams.

Is this about those 3 stupid questions you asked?

I believe I answered not necessarily on the first two and asked YOU if he (Beane) was a SCOUT and how many players on this current A's team were homegrown FOR THE 3RD question.

    I don't know about you -
...but I think MY answers make more sense while YOU are the one who wants people to say WHAT YOU THINK should be the right answer.

You've just been slapped around again.

Cut it now....Beane, for all we know, would be chewed to pieces under the NY microscope if he had a 200 MIL payroll to work with and failed to deliver at least one or two trips to the ALCS...never mind the WS.

    LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Beane teams have done well except for the post season. Last night was another just unfathomable loss. So was the loss years ago to the Yankees.

    umm...Rick..I know Tex wasn't Girardi's fault.
But Tex is was a big reason why I suggested Joe should've shook up the lineup more often than he did..and he didn't do it nearly enough. I was talking about REALLY shaking up this underachieving lineup to the point where I would've used Cervell (on days when he started), Ichiro, Headley and some others ( "ANYONE ELSE") in the 3-4-5 spots.

    That's all.

    ...my God.

    ...how in the world are these 3 simple "yes or no" questions "stupid"? ;

"1...you don't think the Yanx would be worse with Cashman on a $70 Mil budget?

2...you don't think the A's would be better with Beane and a $200+ Mil budget?

3...you don't think the Yanx would have done better the last 15+ years with Beane running the farm and using the Steins checkbook?"

...seems pretty simple and straightforward to me.

I'm assuming the word (sentence would make sense if...) should've been quantiFy rather than quantiTy... Be letter makes the sentence go from ramblings to a semblance of intelligence....
