Because max players have to leave $60 million on the table to sign an extension. Its not worth it; they can wait one year to earn $60 million dollars. That changed with the 2011 CBA and we haven't seen a single veteran player sign a max extension since that time.
I wish LA well. He put out a great effort here for 9 years. Spurs would be most players' choice if they were in his positon. New era..bring it on!
Nope, we haven't. What rule are you referring to that changed things? Max players didn't sign many extensions in the previous CBA, either. Only 3 did. And only 3 signed a contract with their free-agent team. The 7 who got traded brought back a goodly amount of talent. The 25 that didn't, well, didn't. People keep talking about "leaving money on the table". LMA left 55M guaranteed on the table last summer. He'd be in the same position as if he'd signed a 3yr deal with 4th-year option. He left 28M guaranteed on the table with POR, because he didn't need or want the 5th year (he probably wants another big contract).
I don't wish him jack shit. I'm a Blazers fan. We had a GOOD thing going in Portland and he abandoned ship after saying he wouldn't Fuck him and the horse he rode in on.
Allen should take the money that he would have spent on Aldridge and buy all the houses around wherever LA decides to move. Turn it into a dump.
We had a good thing going right up until Wesley's ankle exploded. Then we actually had a pretty lousy thing going. And the best time to abandon ship is before it goes down, not after.
It's a new chapter..I don't hate on LA, Wes or anybody..looking forward to the new version of Blazer basketball
I just don't see us giving Wes 15 million. That's ridiculous. Even if Aldridge stayed. That's too much. Rolo's salary wasn't too bad, but I like Plumlee. I don't really see a dropoff.
And thus the game of cat and mouse where Paul follows him around buying properties and making his life a living hell.
http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/i...ldridge_is_gone_and_now_the_trail_blazer.html LaMarcus Aldridge is gone, and now the Trail Blazers can exhale their relief There is a lot to this that resonates and makes sense. LA always seems a little over sensitive to slights, perceived or otherwise. Dame seems much more tough minded.
Chances are he'll be active in the trade market trying to absorb a castoff or two next year as teams gear up for the great cap-space-a-palooza of 2016.
A great GM will find great players that have not had the opportunity yet to be the man. Yeah, we didn't sign Jordan, Aldridge or Chandler for huge money..Olshey is collecting young talent and looking to build a sustainable roster for the next 6 years behind Dame. Danny Green played in the D league before Pops made him a star. Boris Diaw was looked at like a worn out old guy in Charlotte when the Spurs rejuvinated his career. Yup, Wes, Nico, Blake and LA have all moved on. It's a youth movement but I just hope we don't tank because of it
