Does DET have to get involved for it to work? I guarantee you that they like Singler a lot and wouldn't want to get rid of him just to get Barton.

Aldridge has not said he wants out. His agent and the team's GM are doing the responsible thing and discussing which options are best for both. One of those options, is Aldridge staying in Portland. and depending on how that team does this season, that very well may be the best option for both parties. He is our best player, and you rarely get equal value when trading your best player. And, we hold his Bird rights and can pay him more and give him a longer contract than anyone else. For all we know, this is just his agent's way of creating leverage to put his client in position to get a max contract extension from the Blazers.

I have thought as this as a possible scenario as well. Rumors will start both sides to consider covering their asses. If this is the case then Neil needs to fly to Dallas and "Nip it in the Bud"
immediately. If it truly is an issue. Fuck his camp. Talk with the player and explain that he was just doing what all GM's are paid to do. (Their Homework by inquiring about different scenarios)

I would love to make the playoffs but are you saying Aldridge is just going to walk and we get nothing in return when he signs with the Mavericks (who will have the money for him in 2 years)? I would hope at the very least he agrees for us to sign and trade him at that point instead of leaving us high and dry.

 

We would absolutely get something in return. CAP SPACE. Most likely it would be a sign and trade anyway, since Aldridge would make more money in the transition. There is a reason why so many of our contracts are up in two years. I think Olshey is doing his due diligence.

 

Is Cuban really saving cap space for LMA? or rather for next summer when there are bigger names available? don't know if he can afford to be patient for another two years just for Aldridge.

I amended my post above to include sign and trade. Cap Space does POR little good though as we have trouble getting people to take our money. We can use it in trades but still we are talking guys like Lopez that we get, not guys like LMA.

Yes. Did you read my post? He is better that most but it is with the 3rd tier stars at best (Lopez this summer). You can hope and pray (but not expect) to get it done with LMA-caliber players down the line imo.

If the worst case scenario is letting him walk in two years for cap space then I am OK with that.
We can sign a good FA if we build a good young team for them to join. Lillard and CJ can sell it.

 

I'm talking about having the space available for lop sided deals. We can do multiple "sign and trades"; which wouldn't require us to be limited to our market. We have young talent as well. ALl of which can still obtain better deals. Keep in mind that this was the first year of the new CBA tax hikes. Just wait until the new ones kick in. Teams won't be signing 3 max type players much longer. The small market teams will be able to compete because there isn't enough money to go around.

 

We just need to win in Lillard 3rd season. LMA will help. Remember Charles Barkley would have loved to of joined the Blazers back in his prime. He saw the talent. He thought he could get a ring. Build it and they will come.

 

I am talking the same. Lopsided cap deals whether in trade or signings. I hope we break the trend but you have to admit we have had very little (if any) luck with this in the past even when having cap space.
