That Aminu got a 2nd place vote is legit and he deserved it. No matter what I may think of him on the offensive side of the ball, he is the Blazers' most versatile defender on a team almost bereft of any defense what so ever. HOWEVER...................... Damian Lillard also got a vote. Whoever did that should have their voting privileges removed. Dame was 392 out of 411 players in Defensive RPM and #65 among PG's. I didn't know there were 65 PGs in the league! This team needs a massive improvement in defense and while I'm sure Dame knows he needs to improve, I don't want him getting any ideas that someone things his defense is 2nd team worthy.
Hold your outrage. Eric Gordon, who doesn't even start for his team and is nothing but instant offense off the bench, received one FIRST TEAM All Defensive vote. His DBPM of -2.4 was even worse than Dame's -2.0. BNM
I think there are always voters who will send a vote to players they personally like, whether the vote is merited or not. There's little to no accountability for voting, so little to no cost for giving a guy you like an ego stroke.
Well, unlike the Gold Gloves, the right guys generally make the All-Defense teams. If Isaiah Thomas had made an All-Defense team, that would have been somewhat akin to Rafael Palmiero winning a Gold Glove in a year where he primarily DHed.
People who vote for people like Dame or Isaiah Thomas for 2nd team All Defense are like the idiot baseball Hall of Fame voters who league Hank Aaron off their ballot. They obviously don't take it seriously so should have their privileges removed if it means that little to them.
I like that both Dame and C.J. know good defense when they see it. It's a first step. A baby step perhaps, but a step none-the-less. BNM
I asked in the other thread if Mike and Mike still got to vote as they were still technically on the Blazers payroll. Seriously, that's the problem with letting the media vote on these awards - too many homers (with a lower case "h" - so as to not offend @HomerLovesKoolAid ). BNM
Must have been some strange shit in the water up in Canada back them. Their GM drafted Bargnani #1 overall and then their announcer voted for him for ROY when he didn't even start and his numbers were far inferior to Roy's. BNM
