Oh. Bender won a duel with Alessandro Neverheardofhim. In Stein world that proves he's a great player.
No doubt you should always choose best player available, but all things considered, you also want to focus on your team's positions of need. My guess is that the Blazers will be looking to first draft some depth at SF, then perhaps PG. Here are a few prospects currently listed on NBAdraft.net in those positions: Ben Simmons, 6'10", 230 lbs, SF, LSU Fr Jaylen Brown, 6'7", 225 lbs, SF, Cal Fr Brandon Ingram, 6'9", 195 lbs, SF, Duke Fr Jamal Murray, 6'5", 205 lbs, PG/SG Kentucky Fr Kris Dunn, 6'4", 205 lbs, PG, Providence Jr Ray Smith, 6'8", 190 lbs, SF, Arizona Fr Isaiah Briscoe, 6'3", 210 lbs, PG, Kentucky Fr At this time, it's looking like the 2016 Draft will be a bit light on PG talent. Luckily there should be a good selection of lottery talent at the SF position. A lot will/can change between now and draft day. Only 270 days 5 hr 41 min and 35 sec until the 2016 draft!
Our position of need is: everything but PG. And if the PG is bigger than 6'4", we'll consider him too.
In the early lottery range, probably not. Latter lottery, they may. Unless Pressey or Frazier take a bit step up this year, or McCollum shows improved passing/court-vision, I think the Blazers will be on the lookout for a solid backup PG.
The Simmons/Dragan draft. Rumor: Dragon wont enter unless he gets a top-3 guarantee. He'll have no problem with that. He's the only prospect that could challenge Simmons for that #1 pick.
That Dragan kid is skilled... but holy fuck he is a bean pole... dude would get pushed around easily at the NBA level. I fear he could go down the Austin Daye road.
I know it was just a scrimmage, but after watching the fanfest I don't think we're going to have a problem missing out on a top four pick.
