Damn so many late nights spent in those diners back in high school and into college. Was a great stop off coming home from a graveyard shift, grabbing some cinnamon roll French toast with hash browns or one of their skillets. Food was never great but like HCP said, life is all about expectations and if you went in there knowing what to expect, it lived up to those more times than not.

Shari's was great for bacon and eggs and cigarettes. That time has passed though.

Young people loved it for a hangout after games on Friday nights. Open 24hrs and free refills on coffee and soda, and great snacks for a reasonable price.

My daughters basketball team would go there after games all the time. They'd go there to study as well.

It was just run into the ground.

I went last year. It was a dump.

The food was mostly fine, but they were horribly understaffed so the food wasn't hot. It would have been great if it were run well.

Part of my very earliest memories. The old family homestead and business was just up Powell Blvd from there. My grandparents would take us there after Sunday mass. I'd bet money the grease in the fryers hasn't been changed out since then. Also a great night place to sober up before going home when I was in HS. The Hot Cake House is a genuine Portland legend that just won't die......

Haven't been there in 20 years. Used to swing by there around 2:30am on weekends after a night at the clubs!

Went there a few times back in the 80's - it was always very crowded!

Don't worry, there are plenty of us on here that she knows to have much higher expectations of when it comes time for that! #BAM

Spent many a Friday night in HS after playing a football game hanging around Round Table Pizza and/or Sharis while waiting for a party to develop somewhere or just hanging out with friends. God bless all those waiters and waitresses that had to deal with the kids at these all night establishments.

They had a hell of a run for any franchise, let alone a restaurant chain..those are only as good as the cook turnover crapshoot allows them to be as they never pay competitive wages for talented chefs...sometimes they get lucky and find talent but it's not a guarantee. I never went to the Shari's in Eugene but I've had their pies at gatherings and the ones I tried were pretty good.

In the 60's that was our go to place after cruising Broadway, usually around 1-2 am.
Best breakfast in the city and priced right.
