All things Dalton Knecht

Really want a player like that for Scoot to consistently find.

 

I like that idea too.

 

If you want a teammate on the floor for big minutes to help Scoot game next year it shouldn't be a rookie.

 

Unless we're trying to play capture the Flagg

 

He's either a more advanced JJ Reddick or he's the Adam Morrison of this draft. Both 2006 picks, which this draft reminds me of.

Due to his FT% not being as high as 3pt shooting SGs like JJ or Klay Thompson (both hit 90% FT at various points in college) and closer to Morrison in that 70s% range, I'm somewhat skeptical of him as a shooter in the NBA. I anticipate he'll have a decent rookie year like Morrison did, though.

Some of the driving that he does, it's not going to work against NBA level defenders. A step or half step too slow and not high enough of a leaper nor particularly lanky.

Otherwise, his impressive college year came as a 23 year old, having an age and experience advantage against people younger than him. It's easier for seniors and super seniors to average 20ppg at the college level. Hence, I remember some people back in the day commenting that Nolan Smith would be just as good as Kyrie and took away pressure from Kyrie by being Duke's top player that year.....at least, on paper.

Perhaps he keeps improving exponentially and perhaps it's simply that much easier for 3pt shooters nowadays, I don't know but I don't think he's a safe pick within the Top 10.

 

I like guys who can Do A Thing really well. We don't have enough of those guys, and I think having a couple Do A Thing guys would make the do-anything players better.

 

How much different is he from Kris Murray?

 

In terms of shooting? It's not even close.



Murray shot 33.5% from three in college.

Knecht shot right around 40%.

If you look at their measurables, obviously Murray is taller and longer.





Here were their other measurables.





So Knecht has a better vert. He did the lane agility in a better time. He did the sprint faster. So overall he's a better athlete and a better shooter. Murray is just taller and longer.

You do not NOT take a player cause your afraid it might block a spot by someone in the future IF the Blazers did not take a player cause of this then that scout or GM or whoever should be FIRED on the spot for even mentioning it.

 

He seems a bit more athletic, but enough to make much of a difference? He probably is a better shooter. Murray was a crap shooter last year. But for their college careers, Knecht was only 3.5% better, and Murray was better from 2.

I'm just getting a spot up shooter vibe from Dalton.

 

Watch his tape. He runs off screens constantly.

 

Most elite shooter in the draft...for a team was was last in shooting they better improve in that area at some point.

 

I think Sheppard shot better, but they're both good shooters.

 

I wonder what taking Sheppard at #7 would do to Scoot's psyche? After spending the #3 pick on him just a year ago and having a disappointing season, I don't think it helps with HIS development. If the plan is to go after Sheppard, I think there should be a plan to move a few guys, including Scoot. I just don't know what they could get for him right now.

 

I don't think Sheppard is a point guard.... which is why I don't like the pick.

 

I’m saying his skill set (shooting) is well defined. He thus Does A Thing (Shooting). I like that in a supporting player.

 

The payoff with Reed is that he becomes a Steph Curry type player.

 

If they draft Sheppard, it better not be to play next to Scoot. Although they are both waaaay better defenders, it's too recent to forget the last 2 small guards lineup.
