Hilton and Marriott are dominating the downtown hotel boom. Radisson Red (next to the Ladd Tower) are joining the party:
This is now going through the design review. Given the location and the 200x200 downtown blocks this thing is going to look massive:
So who approved that monstrosity on the east end of the Burnside bridge, that thing that completely obliterates the view when you are headed into Portland from the eastside? Man I hate that thing.
I think "Chinatown" is going to be rebranded "Old Town" soon enough and go through a Pearl District-esque makeover.
Ah, the Yard building. Skylab Architecture quickly slipped in a design change at the last minute that decreased the amount of windows by 30%. It got by the city and only when the building's exterior was near completion did the design commish notice. It's probably the most hated building in the city. There has been numerous articles on this.
The next boom area of downtown. A lot of projects are in the pipeline. A large Japan firm are building the first US 'Toyoko Inn' hotel near the area.
Exactly. The original renderings looked pretty sleek. The extra glass made the subtle lines and angles stand out. Now it's kind of big ugly box.
I don't know, the color is so awful that it's hard to imagine it would really look that much better with more windows. I'm looking at it out my office window right now and it looks like someone set fire to it and left the ruins. But at least it isn't beige. Got enough of those. barfo
If it were black without any of the orange/brown tones it would ....help some. The non-reflective glass kills it for me. There is no depth. During the day the interiors blend with the exterior creating this ginormous matte brown/black blob. It *may* not look so bad at night with interior lights on. But overall it's the ugliest project since SoWa's Mattise apartments.
yeah, my buddy owns tube and fortune there in the bar district. its gonna turn into hipster yuppieville before too long. I mean I'll probably love it with some urban candle shops and poke bars, but y'all might not. haha
A Friend of mine runs SIMPLE. The company that has their name on the Timbers warmups...... that is where their offices are^ I like it.
To me, it is the location of the Yard building that sucks - how it completely ruins the view of downtown and the west hills coming in from the east.
