Depends on his coach. He is strong and athletic enough to be a good defender. He also has a 6'9" wingspan and just under 200 lbs. I would not be very concerned with any defensive analytics for a 19-year-old. The only time I would be is if he just does have the physical ability to stay in front of his man. And this is not the case.
Something else to consider. Scoot - 6'9 wingspan Rose - 6'8 wingspan Wall - 6'9 wingspan Russ - 6'7.75 wingspan Morant - 6'7 wingspan So he seems to have a decent wingspan. Not crazy though. Norm's wingspan at 6'3 was 6'11.
Where is the confusion? You listed a bunch of PGs except Norm. I pointed out that his crazy wings span allowed teams to play him at SF. Although not the best position for him.
Scoot's mentor is literally Steph Curry. They workout together. He's going to figure out his jump shot. Not worried at all about this. He's training with the greatest shooter of all time.
Is this the Blazers move on draft night? Keep the pick if it’s Brandon Miller, trade it if it’s Scoot?
c'mon now....Evan Turner could have trained with Reggie Miller and Kyle Korver and he would have still been a bad shooter. Jordan Poole has spent years around Curry and Steve Kerr and he's under 34% for his career sow's-ear--->silk-purse fails most of the time
True, but shooting is the easiest skill to acquire and most players improve. Marcus Smart used to be horrible. Gary Payton as well. There's no guarantee but I would take his physical profile and his strengths over others who might be available. For me, the dark horse is Amen Thompson. I know he played against inferior competition but his skill set, size and athleticism make him super high upside.
I wonder if anybody has even analyzed at what point below 40% a 3 point shot becomes a bad shot. It sure as hell isn't the eFG% formula I'd estimate that threshold would be around 36%, no lower. It's will be a major challenge for Scoot to go from 27% to 36%. And without that threat, the impact his quickness and athleticism will be diminished significantly as players back away from him
4 more makes this year gets him over 35%. I wonder how many of his 51 attempted 3's were end-of-quarter heaves? Hell, he could improve by the draft as long as his shot is not broken, and from what I saw it isn't.
What level do you think Scoot will reach as an NBA player? Bad, below average, average, above average, way above average?
I see a Jalen Brunson type level impact player. Maybe a more athletic Mike Conley with worse defense. Basically a player who will get some discussion of being all-star caliber, but will be on the outside looking in.
Tim Hardaway just said he would rather trade Dame than miss out on Scoot. He thinks he's going to be a star.
Even if I thought he would be above average or even way above average, it's pretty clear to me that elite players under 6'4 aren't the recipe to championships. Look at the last 20 finals MVPs, I think 2 are PGs (Tony Parker and Steph Curry - I didn't actually look, so I could be wrong), but at best it's 3/20. And then after that you're probably looking at Magic or Isiah in the 80s.
