I remember the last time we played the Heat, in the game thread I was talking about how Whiteside is the guy we need to go after this offseason and a lot disagreed at the time saying his passing was just so terrible and doesn't really have an offensive game, now everybody is on the wagon for this dude and rightfully so. Best defensive center in the league. Great rebounder. Exactly what we need. I say it would be a major loss if he went to the Lakers because it would be. Waste of talent on that team which wont even be good again for another couple years. Mavs are going at him too and honestly out of the three teams rumored to go after him, Portland to me is an obvious choice and I am not saying that because I am a fan, it's the truth. This team made the second round this past season, these other teams didn't come close. Why would a center not wanna play with CJ and Dame, be around a great organization and fan base where shit isn't fake like in Laker land.

One thing he already has connection with Dame and CJ even it on twitter there at least that connection. I don't care where he goes he not going get any endorsement especially if he doesn't having them already. Yes our tax is unreal but I still don't think that will be the turning point of his decision. The turning point will what players will he more comfortable playing with and are they winning team. I think we got great shot of signing him I am more worry about Dallas then LA. Cuban is great selling his product. So I believe it will between 3 teams Portland Dallas and Miami. Why I say Miami he already no the system even with less money it might be comfort level just my thought.

Well, he describes himself as a "businessman," so he may think he can get endorsements in LA.:beatinto::crazy::curse:

He might think that but me personal he not big name I don't care how much he makes he will not get the endorsement period. Now if he talking about his next contract that total different thing.

Whiteside needs to be real with himself. Can he really be endorsed and pushed in the LA market? I doubt it, somebody bigger will come along or they will be too busy pushing Ingram. Whiteside is a great player but not the type to get endorsements on that level. Dame gets huge endorsements and he is with us. Who knows. I don't know why he would want to play anywhere else. If you wanna win, you come to Portland out of the possible teams rumored to make runs out of him.

Another thing that would be great about getting Whiteside is that he could start center and we could use Plumlee exactly how GS uses Draymond in terms of ball handling and passing. Doesn't have the shot but in the Clippers series, he showed he could be very effective playing that way. He could toss some lobs to Whiteside

This must be a troll. Or you've not watched much of whiteside or DJ. The only thing they have in common is the ability to block shots, and set big screens....

Except Green can defend PFs and the only thing that opens up his drive is his ability to shoot. Without the shot, Green wouldn't be able to score. And then without his defense, he wouldn't be a starter... That's where Plumlee is...

Draymond without a shot is Plumlee but with better defense and shot-blocking ability. I don't see them as similar at all.

To be fair, they are the same age within a month, they are of very similar height and weight, (HW is 1" taller) they have almost identical wingspans and are within 1/2" of the same standing reach. They played similar minutes last season (DJ 4 minutes more), neither one will ever shoot a 3-pt shot, both shoot a high FG% although DJ's is ridiculously high as he only dunks where HW has a little bit of a jump hook to go with all his dunks. HW is the much better FT shooter and shot-blocker even though DJ is 2nd in that category. They averaged similar points, DJ had a couple more rebounds, very similar steals and DJ gets and extra 3/4 of an assist a game.

I'm trying to find where they are very dissimilar except for the shot-blocking? DJ has a little more quickness on the perimeter where HW is more of a rim-protector.

Oh, are you one of the ones in the "he's not actually a good defender" boat? Because I've been hearing that shit for a while, and it never had any substance.

    Anything else?

If he's thinking purely from a business standpoint.... I could see him signing with LA.

If he's thinking from a winning standpoint, he'd sign here.

Block shots, set screens, rebound, defend, catch ridiculous lobs, deter players from even wanting to come in the paint.... Yeah, I don't see any similarities....

Yeah, I've seen Miami fans act like they're a much better situation than any of the teams named in going after him, but they're a geriatric team in the East that has to re-sign some of those old guys and try to bring in some other young guys to stay at that level. We're already made with Dame and CJ, so we have to be higher on the list for winning teams. The thing going against us is we're in the West and not the shitty East.

The links have various analyses that talk about Whiteside's poor man defense in the post, poor pick-and-roll defense, poor team defensive positioning, and the Heat posting better team defense numbers with Whiteside off the floor rather than on. One link is from December, one from February, and one from May.

You may not agree with their conclusions, but there's validity to the data and the arguments. That said, I'd still be happy with Olshey signing him if he wanted to come here.
