That was a pretty mean-spirited article. I notice it was all about when he played with Sacramento, a long time ago. I'm thinking he might still be a little difficult to deal with at times, but I hope we have the staff that can handle it. Portland is not in the situation where they can get exactly the player they want; this is a gamble but I think it's worth taking.

The article was updated March, 2015. So, yeah, it's very much out of date.

Cmon Fizz, there's only two things in there that you could take exception with, and it was his laziness. But it's also stated that he gained 40 lbs of muscle, showing that he's willing to work hard.

The lazy stories were from when he was unsuccessful in SAC. It probably took a change in attitude to get him to the level that he's at now.

Im not saying i dont want him. Its just ridiculous people hate howard but would fondle whitesides balls to get him here.

Both guys have had immature pasts. But on the court both provide needs for us

Yeah but to me Whiteside and Howard are completely different. Whiteside has had issues here and there on the court but plays his ass off. Dudes getting triple doubles with blocks. Meanwhile, Howard plays like he doesn't care to play. Injury issues. Always smiling in the worst situations. With Whiteside, it can be fixed. Dwight has been in the league a while and you can see he just is completely washed. Sure he can give you some defense but come on

    Howard wants to win.

Have you ever been at a dysfunctional job? Shits hard to get motivated in.

And whiteside wanted $$$$ its not hard to see that. He has big ?????'s about if he will be the same player after getting PAID

Of course he wants to very paid. Everyone around him is baking bank and the most he has ever made is $980,000. If people at your job were making 10-20x more than one of the top producers, that person would want to get paid as well.

Yeah, no doubt. But once you get paid, will you still work as hard? Not everyone does.

    Too many to name

HW is on his way up, DH is on his way down. It's not quite as simple as that, but almost.

DJ not only makes him team better defensively while on the court, which is something you can't say about Whiteside.
But DJ has shown to the world that he has elite lateral quickness for a man his size. Something Whiteside has not shown.
If I'm not to be believed there are plenty of videos showing what I'm talking about.

Whiteside has shown a go-to-move on the block. Something that can't be said about DJ..
Whiteside has also shown the ability to make free throws... Something the NBA isn't going to require of DJ for too much longer.. Simply because DJ couldn't hit the ocean if he was standing 15ft away from it.

To say Whiteside is a better version of DJ is.... Silly... They have three things in common blocking shots, big screens, and lobs.

You didn't say similar you said Whiteside is a better version of DJ.

    WAIT ARE YOU WHITESIDE'S AGENT?

Absolutely...a very valid concern but just that someone wants to get paid when they never have been isn't reason to wonder about their motives. Going from $981,000 to $21,000,000 is a big concern but he is certainly not the only person in that category. Many players have relaxed after getting a large deal. It's part of the problem with guaranteed deals in the NBA and in MLB. I wish the contracts were more incentive laden with more reward for team success. Is Anthony Davis woth a max deal when his team sucks and he is so often injure?

Guarantee a base and then build incentives into it and some of those concerns go away. My hope is that if HW comes to Portland, he is still hungry and at 27, is still in line for one more long term deal at the end of this contract.

Especially for someone with known maturity issues

Im not saying it was a motive for concerns that he wanted to play well to get paid.

Im saying he could have put up the numbers he did last year because he was so motivated to get paid. And the motive for concern is if after he gets paid, will he still be motivated.

He is. And they have a lot more than 3 things in common. That's why I was talking about similarities... Because you seem to only see 3 things.... And somehow rebounding isn't one of them.

The only new thing I saw on Whiteside was a tweet saying in effect that he is leaning away from teams that don't have stable organizations.

This might have already been posted, but it's a nice balanced article from Fansided

Who's to say HW will have reached his up when he gets a gazillion dollars, and who's to say DH won't reascend with a real team?
