The payroll went up specifically because the basketball-related-income has already gone up. If prices go up, it's because the market bears it, not because payroll increased.

And we need to take into account that as long as he is a Blazer (and especially now that we signed Turner) he will not be a starter and most probably he won't average the mins he needs to show that he is a close to max player. Which means it will be extremely doubtful to move him with this salary. And this won't be an asset but a problem unless of course we become a contender and none cares if we pay Crabbe 20M. Unlikely.

Found this tweet very interesting. Just wish I knew WHY the eye roll. So many ways it can be interpreted.

could be the "hey, man, didn't we talk about this? If you get an offer, you're going to get paid. By someone. Just don't sign anything until you let the team know and let them start talking."

I'm calling it right now, If Crabbe is let go to play for the Nets he WILL be an All-Star for Brooklyn. Maybe not this year but he will be one.

If you are okay with giving an All-Star to the Nets then fine, let him go. I am not so you have to match it.

Crabbe will be an All-Star? That is what he would need to be to justify that contract. I just don't see it though. Certainly not for our team as best a 6th man. But even starting on the Nets I think he does well but All-Star? That is something I can't just leap too. Hope so for him but it would take a lot of growth in many non-shooting areas for that to happen.

I know that. My question is let's say we match Crabbe and are at that point over the cap. At that point can we still sign our guys, or do we have to be under the cap to then go over the cap

As long as we retained the RFA cap holds while matching Crabbe, we can re-sign or match our RFA's, even if we're already over the cap. The only thing that would prevent us from being able to do so is if we had to renounce their cap holds, and matching Crabbe does not require that.

Look at two franchises that have been long term successes. The Patriots and Spurs. One key thing they have in common, is that they don't over-pay to keep secondary guys.

Let Crabbe walk and sign Terrence Ross. He would fill the same role as Crabbe. They shot nearly the same % from 3 last year.

He's not a free agent. Signed an extension last November. We'd have to trade for him.

Yeah, we probably don't have enough cap space to sign him now that we got Ezeli. Forgot about that. But he would not be too hard to replace.

    1. It doesn't cost them anything (well, it costs them SOMETHING, but we could agree to swap picks but give them the right to choose which one they use, or they could send us the rights to some Greek they drafted in the '90s or something, so eventually it's a wash )
    2. It establishes goodwill between trading partners. That counts for something.
