Should we match Brooklyn's offer sheet for Allen Crabbe?

  1. Yes

    40.8%
  2. No

As far as our team is currently constructed, I agree it makes little sense to spend that kind of money on Crabbe. HOWEVER, if, as you say, we need a consolidation trade, then Crabbe might make it easier to get somebody good. So perhaps that's the best reason to re-sign him, as a precursor to a trade.

(Although, of course, the trade kicker really spoils that, which was presumably the point of Brooklyn doing it.)

Yup.... the Nets pulled a Blazer move and threw a toxic offer at us.

Wouldn't be the worst result in the world. Of course, we no longer have the cap-space to absorb a Boogie deal, so we'd have to match salaries. CJ/Davis/Aminu? Kinda steep.

Could still renounce Meyers, right? Clear the space, make the trade, and then match Crabbe?

He doesn't have to start. But he could. Keeping him does give us flexibility. Against some teams you could start Crabbe and Turner and bring CJ off the bench. We were fine last year with different starting lineups. Maybe you do it again to keep all the players engaged a little more.

With the addition of Turner we could move CJ+Davis or a freshly S&T'd Nards for Boogie, I'd HATE to lose out on CJ, but we'd get the one thing we are missing, complete domination in the post. The real question is what do you prefer?

    Dame / Napier
    CJ / Crabbe
    Turner / Harkless
    Aminu / Davis / Vonleh
    Plumlee / Ezeli / Leonard

    Or

    Dame / Napier
    Crabbe / Pat
    Turner / Harkless
    Aminu / Vonleh
    Boogie / Plumlee / Ezeli

Even if we renounce Leonard, we'd have to send out 9.3M to take back 17M. So, CJ/Davis?
In another thread, there was a suggestion of trading for Smart. Maybe something like this?

I know Vonleh is going to get basically zero minutes for us this year but man I still leary of dealing him. Call me crazy or call it Jermaine O'Neal syndrome or whatever but I still want to see where he is at as a player next summer before thinking of moving him. That trade looks sweet on paper but no true starting PF then available to play for us.

You know the other teams have to agree as well, right?

You guys keep thinking we might trade CJ. I think there is NO WAY we trade CJ in the next 3-4 years.

Maybe we won't, I'm just saying that I think Crabbe could be a very capable starter, and trading CJ would net us the kind of star that we can't seem to acquire through free agency.

The key is "when Dame was out". He started 8 games last year. If neither starting guard is out we've got an 18-20m guy coming off the bench. I see no way the Blazers can match both Crabbe and Harkless so it comes down to your preference. When Moe started he played only 26 minutes but did score 11.9 ppg, 6.6 rpg and 1.2 apg, 1 blocks per game and 1.2 steals per game, shooting 50% from the field. I think Moe has a higher ceiling but isn't a SG.

In other news I'm very against trading CJ.

A slight adjustment & I'd pull the trigger on this all day long! Give Bos a guy (aka Meyers) that stretches the floor/fits very well next to Horford (this IS what they're looking for:wink:).

That's fine. I understand why people would be against trading him. I'm just saying that you could have two options if you match (well, three if you just match and keep him).

    1) Match and then trade him in December as part of a package for another star player.

    2) Match and then trade CJ as part of a package for another star player.

    3) Match and then keep him on the bench.

Regardless, this gives you three possible options, which in my mind is better than just letting him walk for nothing.

I understand your rationale, but I think it is clouded with your desire for Cousins. How many others stars are available because I am not sure Boogie is.........right now.

For CJ? I think Brook helps us, but I personally don't consider him a star. I would not want include CJ in that trade.

Woj said before free agency even began that Portland wanted to lock down crabbe before moe or Meyers and that we would match any offer. I still think we match. I wouldn't be mad at it. Just make sure to keep moe too. We would have a lot of trade assets for a future deal. A lot of good young pieces

There is more to a game than scoring. It's the other stuff (rebounds, assist, steals, defense) where Oladipo is MUCH better than Crabbe.
