DOPE. Yeah, then definitely spend a day going to the North Shore. Don't take the same way back than where you came, the side of the island where that beach you found is a pretty dope drive. Even then, places like Kailua, its a fucking bitch to find parking, especially on the weekends. Its not that the beach is super crowded, its just there's not really any parking lots theres a small one but that's not nearly enough.
Thanks for the tips guys. All this stuff helps. We don't leave tip Thursday morning, so keep em coming. I guess the one touristy place my wife says we have to go to is a place called Dukes for dinner.
Duke's food is fucking horrible. They have decent french fries. I would recommend sitting at a bar table if there's live music. They have a morning breakfast buffett for $15 which is a pretty ok deal for the area. That being said, its probably one of my favorite spots in Waikiki, the cover band and view there is dope as fuck. Sunday afternoon is when a lot of locals come through and just jam out, its really awesome. I love sitting at the bar and getting wasted. The bar is right on the beach, the barefoot bar. I'd go there on a sunny afternoon, sit at the tables in the sand and watch the waves while drinking some girly drinks and kona beers. Where are you staying? I could give you some food recs, mostly around waikiki or a 5 min drive away.
Skip anything Sam Choy or any of the Roy's restaurants. Skip Zippys, skip Cheeseburgers in Paradise too. I'd probably skip any of the Keoni's or Thai restaurants in Waikiki. Alan Wong is the only celeb chef there that is good. He has a spot "The Pineapple Room" at the Ala Moana Mall (not sure if your wife will want to go shopping, its the same upscale shit as in any major US city). Its inside Macys. One of my absolute favorite places to go is the "Side Street Inn". There are two locations and there is usually a wait. Dope fried porkchops and beef. Fusion of asian, hawaiian and american comfort foods. Pretty divey though. http://sidestreetinn.com/ Also love the Rainbow Drive-In. Its a walk from downtown Waikiki, but its pretty dope shit. Its cheap unhealthy plate lunches. http://www.yelp.com/biz/rainbow-drive-in-honolulu My favorite place for breakfast in Waikiki is Eggs and Things. If you want things like Banana Pancakes with coconut syrup and shit like that. Weekend waits get FUCKING INSANE though. Lulu's is decent too, but its quite a walk from your hotel. http://www.yelp.com/biz/eggs-n-things-honolulu-3 Things you must eat: 1. Loco Moco- two scoops of rice, covered with two hamburger paties, two fried eggs and gravy. 2. Spam Musubi- Spam sushi 3. Takoyaki- Small octpus balls. Japanese street food. They have a few stands in waikiki, really good. 4. Shave Ice: The famous place is Masumoto's in the North Shore. That Island Snow place reco'd in Kailua is really good too and less crowded. 5. Masaladas: These are little donut things. pretty grub.
Its a tragedy they closed the International Marketplace and are replacing it with a Saks 5th ave. It was a really cool spot, Waikiki lost a lot of soul with that going away.
Looks like it. We were driving to the macadamia nut farm and I thought it looked cool so I snapped a pic. Oahu isn't really with all the beauty/nature/couples shit of the other islands. I do tend to like it because they have dope asian food, there's more places to drink and party and I like to shop there. I actually like the hustle and bustle and all the japanese tourists, its a little campy to me so I dig it.
They have these great donuts on Oahu called Poco lolo. The cops all know where to get them, so you should walk up to a cop and ask them "Where's the best place to get good pocololo brah?"
Alan Wong's in Honolulu is good if you want something a little fancier. Kona Brewing Company's Koko Marina Pub is a dope spot on the water with solid brews and good pub food.
Another dope spot for drinks is Rumfire in the Sheraton Waikiki Hotel. http://www.rumfirewaikiki.com/
If you are a coffee drinker, the swap meet at the stadium usually has Kona very cheap. It was 14 years ago though since my last visit. http://www.alohastadiumswapmeet.net/ The sushi was also affordable and much better than I have found stateside. I do not think I had bad sushi anywhere on Oahu.
