Just got crewed for it this past week. I work for HBO, and this is kind of a "joint" broadcast with Showtime. Very excited that I will be kicking off my boxing season with this HUGE fight. Will probably be flying out right after game 6 if there is one of the first round. Game 7 if there is one, would be picked up by ABC and we wouldn't cover it. 4-0 sweep over the Clippers in the first round would be perfect for The HCP!
She is our Stage Manager. She is in constant communication with our Producer in the TV truck. She makes sure the Mikes know what promos and other type of business we are doing. Keeps the Mikes in check since we can't be out there.
What kind of hooks up do you get when you work a Vegas fight? Will you be staying at the MGM Grand? How many replay guys work a fight like that?
We actually get fed on the plane or at arenas most of the time. It's all about those free PB&J sandwiches from the plane FAMS!. I know you won't be happy with that answer cause you are a food snob!
Besides the Blazers Broadcasting team what other NBA local coverage crew do you like? Which crew don't you like?
HBO swag is about all I get. Other than getting to have lunch with Roy Jones Jr., Jim Lampley and Max Kellerman on the regular. Where we stay depends on who the promoters are of the fight. Stayed at 5 or 6 different hotels down there. MGM isn't that nice to be honest. Big PPV fight like that we will have about 4 or 5 guys doing my job with me. Huge shows!
You saw that a lot more a few years ago. Now all the camera feeds go back to the NBA and we probably wouldn't want to do that anymore. Baseball crews do all the time though.
Those 3 are very cool actually. You come across some announcers that think they are big time, but not these guys.
You know whats funny....... since we moved into our house 8 years ago, I've never owned a lawnmower. We do small stuff around the yard, but I hire Mexicans from Craigslist to come do the real work.
The whole crew. Announcers, video, sound, etc... Who do you think is the best/worst for local coverage?
Greg's knee was tough to replay and Joels a month later. But some of the super slomo punches I do in boxing are brutal. I do my first UFC fight this June...... actually not looking forward to that!
Couple of my boys worked the Team USA game in Vegas last summer and said they almost got sick looking at 10 different angles of the Paul George injury!
