I’m onboard with the most commonly described version of the trade (Gooden, Tyrus, Thabo, Simmons), but only if we’ve got some other trade (such as the Kirk to the Blazers trade) lined up.

I basically have a two thoughts, which are not conflicting, but not straightforward.

    * I’m willing to trade anyone but Rose
    * But I can’t see the logic in a deal that gives up too much and leaves us capped out. If we’re trading for Amare, we need guys that can bring it now. And we can’t afford to field a half-assed incomplete team for really any amount of time.
    * The Bulls need a plan to manage their cap space. We can’t contend when we’ve got $21M salary tied up in two completely unproductive players (Larry Hughes and Noc) and another $10M going to a backup to our franchise player.
    * I’m skeptical of Amare, but I’m skeptical of Tyrus too, and the former has undoubtedly shown a lot more.

    1. Put that together, and I think we only include more than one of Deng/Thomas/Noah if we’re getting back a second player (like JRich). Even then, it’s really hard for me to see giving up both Thomas and Noah simply because I don’t see big men as replaceable as everyone thinks. But if a scenario were put forward that brings in another one, ok.

    2. I think a second trade is absolutely necessary to recover cap space and add depth. I proposed Kirk for Blake, Sergio Rodriguez and Channing Frye. If we pull off the discussed Amare deal, we absolutely need to do that because otherwise we’re over the luxury tax. But beyond that, we need some depth. Another option might be to look toward the Bucks (Charlie Villanueva would be an interesting pairing with Amare) but we’d still need to have cap space to resign him.

    3. That cap space could be used to re-sign Gordon or wrangle a replacement. What I can’t see happening is not trading Kirk until the summer, and then trying to trade him. The only obvious locations for Kirk have assets that will expire by then, so they probably need to move now. And no, I don’t want a Kirk-Rose backcourt. That would suck. I’m not wedded to Gordon, but I think he’s a pretty decent option (and will create/have great opportunities with Amare up front) and I don’t see any obvious replacements that could, frankly, hold his jock.

On the other hand, if we're getting JRich basically for Hughes, I turn around and pull out all the stops to trade Ben, because I don't see any reason to keep Deng/JRich/BG.

However, if we're trading Deng and getting JRich, I guess we stand pat.

We could then swap Deng/Hinrich to try to get Tyson Chandler, Chris Kaman, or Carlos Boozer and have Richardson start at the 3 and Ben at the 2.

If it's Amare for Tyrus, Thabo and Gooden, has Pax turned what amounts to Eddie Curry and Ben Wallace into Amare Stoudemire? That's not a bad deal.

Nope. Only like 2/3 of Eddy Curry. We'd still have Joakim Noah. And only half of Ben Wallace is in there.

It'll be funny. The complaint about the Hinrich, Gordon, Deng, and Nocioni core is that they were all just role players. They needed that start to lead them. It looks like Paxson will have taken the old core, and added TWO stars to that core.

If he pulls this Amare trade off, Paxson deserves an A+ as a GM.

All a bout the cash, yo.

Agreed. They might go a bit over, but I'd expect a quick follow up trade to get back under it.

Yeah, I think I was saying the other day I donlt like the Noah/Amare lineup that much. But I still like it better than Gray. I'd think the Bulls would really need to pull off another trade. Put it this way, with going over the tax, the Bulls will definitely pull another trade. Hopefully it kills two birds with one stone.

I don't see why they'd trade him after firing porter. They could conceivably get under the cap some other way. I dunno... if I were them I wouldn't be sleeping at all if I thought I was doing this.

We didn't almost have shit. I believe Kerr and the Suns had everything planned out from the get go.

Alot of publicity for the Suns organization. The Suns lead us on. I wish we saw the Suns again this season so we could whoop em.

So you think they organized the trade talks, fired Porter, and got Richardson arrested just to get attention?

What's their next step in this brilliant plan?

    Ummm...you exaggerated sir.

I simply said the possibility of trading Amar'e was a stunt. I do not think they had full intention to give Amar'e away...especially with them knowing they wouldn't get a whole lot in return.

The JRich stuff on the other hand....get real. Why would they tell JRich to speed 50 miles over and get all in the news.

It is one thing to bluff trading a player...it is another thing for someone to get arrested for being a fool.

    Fair enough. I did exaggerate.

But what's their motivation for starting false Amare trade rumors? What do they really gain from that?

"Attention" is all that comes to mind.

Other than that....you'd have to ask the Suns.

I just couldn't see them choosing Terry Porter over Amar'e (one of the top dog PF's in the league). At this point; I'd rather try for Bosh than Amar'e to be honest.

I don't see a conspiracy here. What I do see is Kerr wanting to keep Amare all along and the owner wanting to slash payroll with Amare as an obvious candidate due to his big paycheck. Through it all, Kerr's getting a bad rep, but it's really the owner who deserves the bad rap.

If anything, the firing of the coach may have bought Kerr and Amare a reprieve.

The thing about firing the coach is that it costs extra money, money that I'm not sure they make up in the playoffs with a first round exit. The trade talk might have been done to send a message to the team, as well, but Amare doesn't seem to give a shit if he is traded or not. So I think Sarver losing his money is still the biggest driving force. That and Amare complaining about not being the man, while not taking the opportunity to be the man, and then telling everybody he's going to walk in 2010.
