So... Why dont you guys say who you would amnesty, I said mine lol. I also think Batum, BG, John Wall are good ones.
Harrell, Gallo, Bertans, Joe Harris, numbers I dont know. jerami grant I believe has a player option. Id think there are a couple of players you could get for 10-15m a year who would overall be good for the roster.
Well this years FA class isnt very good, but getting cap space also allows for making lobsided trades. Also you could get 2-3 “decent” players for the price of CJ.
Would you trade McCollum for Wiggens if it was presented? or how about for Westbrook (we would have to add filler for Westbrook)?
Probably not for wiggins, but maybe for Westbrook depending on the filler, then again I'm not sure WB and Dame would want to be teammates.
Ok, my main point is that you didn't think McCollum had much if an trade value and both of those players were traded this past year. If the goal is to get rid of McCollum then looking for a trade would far out weigh any amnesty. It's not like he isn't producing and we made it to the WCF just a year ago with him and a hobbled center and a PF running on fumes from fasting.
My main point is I wouldn't really want any of those guys though. I'd rather have 2-3 good players than one greatly overpaid guy (which Wiggins and Westbrook are) and the return that OKC / Minnesota got, I would rather have the cap space. It's not even an anti-CJ thing and yeah they had success last year, but that contract will hinder their ability to field a team going forward.
Do you really think the team would agree to eat about 130mil in contract and then turn around and spend similar money? Essentially paying around 260mil over the same period to have different player(s) than McCollum. I'm not sure any owner would approve that.
Does it matter? Cause in this situation I'm the Owner / GM so I could do that if I wanted too. I don't need Mark Cubans permission if it's my team...
Westbrook was traded for an older, presumably past-his-prime player with a basically identical contract. Wiggins was traded along with a lottery pick for a smaller similar player with a basically identical contract. If your argument is that CJ could be traded for another similarly overpaid player, you nailed it.
So you wouldn't have traded McCollum for Chris Paul, 2 future first round picks and the ability to swap first round picks in other years and would rather just amnesty him? Interesting How's that older presumably past his prime player doing this year along with his new team?
As much as you decry others suggestng you said things you didn't say, probably not wise to do the same.
No way Houstons giving up that much for CJ though. Say what we want about WB he's an MVP, and I think league-wide is considered to be better than CJ (by quite a bit). But sure if that was available for CJ basically everyone would take it.
