I believe President Obama is a decent and honorable man. I just happen to think he has a vision of this country I do not share. He has a facility with language that makes him tough to pin down, especially with those accustomed to President Bush's awkward but straight-forward speaking style.
Interesting. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has reported that Wilson's challenger from the Democratic Party for his congressional seat raised over $500,000 in less than 24 hours since his opponent's outburst last night. Oops. Link: http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/09/10/wilsons-opponent-raises-100k/
I think it's okay to speak your mind, but he shouldn't interrupt especially an insult. If you ask me, it seems like he wanted attention and was exploiting Obama's speech as a forum for his opinion.
The bill's exact language: "Nothing in this subtitle shall allow federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully in the United States." Hmmm.... I parse that to NOT say "This subtitle denies any federal payments for affordability credits..."
Such payments to illegals are already illegal, so this bill doesn't need to make them illegal. It merely needs to not make them legal. barfo
I thought that showed very little class to shout that out during the presidential speech. . . I don't know what it is about politicans, but they so often show very little ability to control their actions or demonstrate very poor judgment. And these are the poeple we elected to run our country . . .
The really amazing thing to me is that people think this is actually relevant. Heath care costs consume 1/6th of our GDP, $2.5 trillion dollars per year, and the most important thing to discuss about health care reform is whether it is too easy for illegal aliens to illegally obtain benefits? barfo
why do ppl insist on referring to them as "aliens"? i like to think that "illegal immigrants" is suffice. as far as i know- mexicans possess human dna.
aliens is shorter to type. I don't believe it is meant to imply they are from outer space. I'm not positive but I believe the word alien was used for people from other countries long before science fiction aliens were invented. Of course it does have the connotation of foreign, or strange, and people from other countries aren't really all that strange these days. It's the Americans that are strange. barfo
I had posted that language earlier. I acknowledge what it says, but it doesn't matter what is in there if there's no enforcement, which is the real problem. It's a sneaky tactic to allow a loophole for de facto health care coverage (more than the emergency room) for illegal aliens. That's why when there was an amendment presented--twice--to specifically ban coverage for illegal aliens, the Democrats voted against it in committee.
Absolutely out of line and a mockery of the presidential office. And factually incorrect. http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-m...lson-south-carolina-said-obama-lied-he-didnt/
Rep. Wilson is a member of a group called Sons of Confederate Veterans. A white supremacist, pro-segregation organization. Wilson as a state legislator was one of only 8 who voted to keep the Confederate flag flying over the state capitol. The organization he is part of includes members who are pro-secession and refuse to fly the American flag. They have in the past praised the Ku Klux Klan and opposed education for African-Americans. That's the new hero of the tea bag wavers, radio spewers, and insurance company stooges.
