They want Obama to change the law passed in 1986 to ban it, but I don't think it's cut and dry. What happens if an illegal immigrant child has a disease like swine flu or TB and is denied treatment. The kid goes and plays at the public playground with other kids and gets them all sick.
wookee, that second part is way easier to believe. Think about the people that stand up and shout at town halls or protest taxes and call obama an "X-ist." Standing up and calling Obama a liar in the middle of his speech is EXACTLY the kind of person they want. edit: not because of the racial part, they probably don't know any of that. Crandc was probably saying "This man is your hero. this man who did.... He is your hero."
It's so much easier to hate than to understand. Of course he must be some cartoon-character racist in your mind.
That would be like giving $600K to a conservative right-wing candidate that wishes to represent Berkeley, CA. It's money wasted.
Who should pay for it then? Maybe an entrepreneur can establish illegal immigration insurance backed by AIG.
We have the First Amendment in this country. If someone is offended if they're given the label of "alien", then they're free to leave. Luckily, we don't have to police our own thoughts to ensure they fit with the current political climate.
Oh, I don't know...the illegal immigrant? I say, fix them up and then deport them. I'll happily pay the bill to stabilize them if it means they're deported. To me, that's a fair trade.
Then we do what we do now, except we don't release them, we deport them. We then bill their native country and they can extract the money from them.
http://voices.washingtonpost.com/capitol-briefing/2009/09/scs_wilson_rakes_in_750000_in.html S.C.'s Wilson Rakes In $750,000 in Less Than 48 Hours; Opponent Tops $1 Million Updated 7:50 p.m. By Paul Kane With a political arms race in full force, Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) has raised almost $750,000 in less than 48 hours since his shout of "You lie!" to President Obama during the Wednesday address to Congress, almost matching the Internet-fueled haul of his likely Democratic opponent. A senior GOP official said Wilson, who apologized to White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel after the health-care speech but has since refused a more public apology, has turned his own previous sleepy campaign machine into an Web-friendly effort. Just as liberals have poured cash into the campaign of Rob Miller, who lost to Wilson by almost eight percentage points in 2008, conservatives are pouring contributions into Wilson's campaign at an astonishing rate. Miller, a former Iraq war veteran, has raised more than $1 million for his 2010 rematch with Wilson, according to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee. Republicans expect Wilson to also top more than $1 million by Monday because of the immense publicity he's received in the last 48 hours. In the relatively inexpensive South Carolina district, which takes in the southern portion of the state, the two opponents will likely have their two-year budgets filled in less than a week, strategists say. To put this fund-raising haul in perspective, Wilson, by early next week, could equal the total amount of money he raised in the entire two-year-election cycle of 2008, when he raised a little more than $1.1 million.
I wonder what the voters in his district think. I could imagine they are quite proud of him, or perhaps after Sanford, they'll be in the mood to get rid of embarrassing politicians. SC is one of the few states I've never visited. Don't know what folks are like down there. barfo
