What's interesting is Wade is actually allowed to recruit LeBron, Bosh etc. because he agreed to re-sign with the Heat. If he didn't agree it would be viewed as tampering.

    Update to the 'summit'

A modified version of the ballyhooed free-agent summit that was initially suggested and then downplayed by Dwyane Wade has indeed taken place, ESPN.com has learned.

Sources close to the situation said Monday night that three of the biggest names in basketball -- Wade, Chris Bosh and LeBron James -- met over the weekend in Miami to seriously discuss their futures, with a focus on the increasingly plausible possibility of those three teaming up with Wade's Heat.

Yet sources with knowledge of the meeting stressed to ESPN.com that James, while clearly intrigued by the possibility of forming a star-studded Miami trio with Wade and Bosh, has not yet committed to leaving his hometown Cleveland Cavaliers for South Beach.

One source did label Miami as the new frontrunner to land James in a package deal with Bosh and a re-signed Wade but also cautioned that James was "non-committal" with the start of free agency fast approaching.

I dont know guys. I think the fact that Lebron has not committed to Miami is a good thing! One thing that has been constant is LeBron to the Bulls. That has been going on for weeks. I think we still have a good chance of getting him. With or without Bosh.

Okay, who changed the thread title? I don't want to be persnickety, but if you're going to change the title -- and make it look like I said what you said -- at least get it right. The Miami Hearld never said that no meeting took place. Neither did the CBS article. Both are parsing words if not implying that a meeting took place, pehaps in a different city.

I updated the status of it, I can change it back though. The no meeting over the weekend is correct. There's not much room for detail with your long title.

They're saying no meeting in Miami, as in no summit. LeBron is also meeting with various teams. Are they all summits? I think the distinction is important.

Yea, but I will just wait this thing out. Im going to keep my level of non excitedness until I hear official news. Im not jumpin in the boat of saying "
Oh Lets go get our custom made Lebron jerseys!!" and then have him not come here...kinda like the knicks fans have done.

Oh, I'm just getting test because it looks like the Bull will come up empty. They palyers could have met at the airport, which really isn't the city, etc., etc., etc. From the non-denial, denials it looks to me like they had an in-person meeting.

They have Bird rights for Wade, so they only need room for 2 max contracts.

Well I consider the location important. Think of it this way, if Bron and Bosh were going to other teams maybe Wade would like to pair up with them? Remember he's also a free agent, so them just talking in person doesn't mean they favor Miami. It could be that they also discussed who gets to play with who, if they go their separate ways. Various things really.

If they actually went to Miami that could mean nothing, but going through the trouble of flying there would make me think they want to get a feel for the city/organization. Now if that isn't the case and they met in some neutral site or talked on the phone, that seems a little less formal to me. Wade has also scheduled meetings with various teams. Either way LeBron wasn't committed as well.

The cap is confusing me somewhat. I hear that the Heat can't sign three max contracts.

If they sign Bosh and Bron first, they have Bird rights on Wade and can sign him to whatever they want regardless of where they stand cap-wise.

    Wrong.

To keep Wade's Bird Rights, Miami has a GIANT cap hold.

Yes but this is the problem:

    http://www.hoopsworld.com/HeadlineS...YER_ID=&hd=20100220#STORY_24357#ixzz0g6L4Ko3N

The Knicks were in this position and had to renounce Birds Rights for Lee. I thought this is what might have happened to the Heat? Because I read one of these ESPN people mention that.

I see. The cap is so fucked up, half the people who talk about it have no clue how it works. I've heard that about Wade's bird rights 4 or 5 times over the last couple days, so I assumed it was true.

I thought the Bulls had Bird Rights to Brad Miller (they did) and could re-sign him after getting their FAs done - even going over MLE to top a team like Boston. But there's a cap hold if the Bulls didn't renounce those Bird Rights. It's in the CBA FAQ.
