I don't think there is a problem. IMO, people are free to believe whatever helps them get through their life better. If you want to believe in Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, Superman, Chupacabra, Albert Einsten, Moses, Jesus, God and Fairies, just go ahead.

I never said it's ok to abuse, descriminate or bomb anything. I was talking about something in the lines of article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights:

you certainly did and you still are. so far your 2 posts are advocating unqualified freedom of relgious belief, which includes brainwashing children, subversion of science, and rampant discrimination in the USA, and those things + abuse of women and violence in other parts of the world.

if you want to add qualifiers at any point feel free, but your initial post was dead wrong. there are and always will be serious problems when people are free to believe "whatever" they want.

I'll take those problems over having others decide what I'm free to believe or not believe.

Since he's citing part of the UN Declaration, I'm pretty sure he implied that those freedoms would stop where they restrict other individuals' freedoms. That topic's been debated to death by the United Nations, and they've generally rejected cultural relativist arguments.

The "qualifiers" are the laws. You can believe whatever you want as long as you don't break the law.

unfortunately the law (in the USA) only addresses violence and the most serious forms of discrimination, and less elsewhere. in some cases the "law" is actually religious mandate.

he gave a list of beliefs that people could have and said go ahead, believe in whatever you want.

you gave a list of actions and said go ahead.

see the difference there? in no way did 123 suggest any of the things you said.

beliefs are harmless if they aren't accompanied by actions.
