Yeah, I know. I made the same mistake. I was under the mistaken impression that Mediocre Man had been banned back when he was suspended. It wasn't just wishful thinking. It actually said "Banned" below his avatar, so I assumed (incorrectly) that he had been banned. Hey Denny, Do you actually pay for this forum SW? If so, I urge you file a bug report with them and tell them they need to fix this. It's just some text in a database field somewhere that says Banned when it should say Suspended. BNM
I thought you said you LIKED to encourage these types of discussions about how the forum operates and how the mods make decisions. I know I've learned more form this thread (that "Banned" below someone's avatar doesn't mean they've actually been banned) than I did that other self-indulgent whinefest. BNM
I've tried to answer this for you Sunday. We have a strict no personal insult rule here in the forum. It's a rule that I take very seriously because I think when allowed to go unchecked it can destroy forums. To be perfectly honest, yes, I felt pretty confident that you and Maxie were kidding around. But I edited the posts anyway. One of the biggest reasons I edited those posts was because of previously complaints and accusations you've made against me as a moderator. In the past when I've left some insults, ones that were just a couple of people joking around and then stepped in and edited others you've made very public accusations of me not being fair, playing favorites and being inconsistent in how I moderate. And in taking a honest look at what you were saying I would have to say I agree with you. If you're going to have a no personal insult rule you can't leave some and edit or delete others. You have been the loudest voice in this forum for consistent, black and white moderation. If I edit or delete one personal insult I must delete all of them. That is a standard that you have publicly demanded in the past. And again, I have to admit you're right in that. It's not fair to allow some insults or to try and read intent in a insult. If we were to add a just joking clause to the personal insult rule then everyone is going to claim that they're just joking. It's your previous complaints about my moderating that helped me to see this.
Great. So him telling me to go fuck myself and you asking if my wife thinks its an insult to fuck me are not personal insults that this form seems to have such a problem with, but me jokingly calling maxie a whore, after he jokingly said something to me (both with smilies) is a personal attack.
Is telling someone to go fuck themselves an insult? As far as my comment goes, you're right. I will delete it. I apologize to you and the entire forum for posting it.
lol . . . or you can just tell everyone that is the way the software works. I think we will live (although you would never know it by this thread)
See, there you go. Maybe this thread will actually lead to something constructive. Wouldn't that be nice. BNM
It's his form of a cowardly, passive-aggressive insult in the form of a back-handed compliment. Maybe I should start a thread about it. BNM
