i am definitely on board for criminal penalties, not fines for cooperation and businesses that exploit undocumented labor, and by exploit i don't mean just the workers but by gaming the whole system of taxes, wages, etc.,etc.

Not opposed to private prisons as long as they don't get paid by how many and how long inmates are doing time. Tie the incentives to something more to do with rehabilitation.
Also, Id think we already have enough people either citizens or immigrants here legally to work rather than a cross the border lower cost employee, otherwise just built the plants in Mexico.

i was more in referral to the shear numbers and costs of the detention centers associated with illegal immigration and employment in border regions tied to it. not opposed to the privatization of the penal institutions, but the monies going into our elections to influence laws and sentencing i do object to....

how about community sponsorship of asylum seekers? how about bloc grants? perhaps new mexico would love an economic boost similar to river's suggestions. with mandated artificial wage minimums that are competitive with low wage areas of the US?

how about suggestions on ways the money needed for the wall's construction in areas where its' effectiveness are somewhat dubious might be invested in an infrastructure for those regions' border security? the goals are curtail/eliminate illegal immigration and smuggling while also leading to an increased probability in the apprehension of those whose sole intent is attacking our country.

I have no problem with opposing views if they are in the context of a civil adult conversation...lawai'i always posts in a manner that's inclusive rather than divisive which is welcome around here.

That's just it as there are many better ways that money can go to use. There is enough in the military budget to put some towards securing the "boarder".

I think this administration has a lot to do with the length of time it takes to process asylum seekers. They are making it as difficult as possible for those truly seeking asylum which isn't what this country was built on.

Building code which the Fire Department accepts. That code is enforced by the building department during construction and enforced by the Fire Department after the first occupancy.
It used be known as the Uniform Building Code (UBC) back in the day. Now, it's got a new name. I think the Fire Department calls it the Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code. As a professional engineer briefly working on commercial construction I had to be somewhat familiar with all of that along with my professional ethics.

i hope that you will bring ideas for areas of compromise from your own perspective. disagreement won't stop the process, but please offer your reasons so that an understanding for those reasons can be enjoined. i certainly don't see all sides without others' input. how do you feel about the work visa process and how the numbers affect employment and wages here in the US? how about its reflection on the immigration process and the process as a whole. ideas for streamlining? i saw this morning another news article about speaker ryan championing the inclusion of the 5,000 Irish work visas for inclusion in the year end legislative schedule. it is the focus of the original linked article of my first post about how the work visa program affects wages and jobs. was a thought provoking read over at brietbart news service for me..https://www.independent.co.uk/news/...lash-republican-blocking-senate-a8685381.html

The thread is worthless because it uses the same debunked source of fake news that spews lies. Breitbart needs to go the way of its namesake.

Immigrants aren't taking taking your jobs....

They're doing the jobs you and I won't do...

i am curious if you bothered to read it as it is about irish immigrants filling college degree required positions and artificially depressing the wages of white collar jobs, certainly nothing about farm labor or blue collar jobs. it is more about the economic impacts of dollars leaving here both as the workers return home and the reciprocity agreement of allowing more dollars to leave in expatriating retirees to ireland. not taking jobs but taking less in pay.

It's a Breitbart article. Who the hell with any intelligence is going to read Breitbart? Not me and apparently not dviss.
