Belichick wasnt a genius for letting Lawyer go, he was lucky. He needed the cap space or something i forget, but it wasnt like they said "o lawyer u suck now so ur cut'' they tried to restructure his contract and it didnt work so they cut him and they were lucky because now hes on the downside.
the year before they cut him, he made 0 big plays, as defined by sacks, ints, and fumbles foreced or recovered....that sure made it a lot easier to part company with a guy that used to be elite....was money a factor? yeah, im sure at the right price the Pats would have let him work through his struggle, but at the money he was making, it was a great move, and it appears he was right about him, cause he only had 1 big play last year, a sack....Belichek has proven that he will pay you if you produce, Malloy wasnt producing anymore....and he still isnt....I would rank him no higher than the 60th safety in football at this point....
so does that make him a genius? theres other coaches that let "elite players" go and then that player does shit for the next team. look at trotter who was a top LB entering his prime, and the eagles.
He got hurt...you can't predict injuries. Now thats luck. And that is the only reason Trotter did not continue to shine...well that and the fact that Washington had a joke for a coach in spurrier which I'm sure hindered their defense as well. You can predict someone heading into the downside of a career though. I don't rank him as low as beef though I don't think he is a top safety anymore. We didn't "NEED" the cap space but belichick wanted it and didn't want to pay Milloy the money he was making in the last two years of his contract cus he wasn't earning it. He saw him all training camp an obviously nothing convinced him that Milloy would return to form so when he wouldn't budge and made it obvious he was talking to teams while under contract that appeared to be the last straw and belichick soon after cut him. It worked out for the best just like not bringing Drew back from his injury because, probably as belichick and Weis had thought already since he jumped from the 4th to the backup after a season, brady was better for what weis does. I'm sure they saw that Harrison was much better than Milloy through out training camp which would also make it easier to cut him. You can call it luck but with the personel moves we have made both in the Draft and Free Agency in the last three years and we have hit on 80% of them at least I'd say we got some pretty good Talent evaluators in Belichick and Pioli.
Ok Dawk you asked for a list of top 5 free safeties, but i have decided to take a different angle. I am going to list the top 4 FS in the NFC east division. 1) Roy Willams, and dont give me any crap about really being SS, because dawk plays close to line all the time also 2)S. Taylor, never taken the field in NFL and still hands down better than Dawkins 4t)B. Alexander, coming off his best year and his numbers stack up very well vs Dawkins 4t)B. dawkins, injuries plagued him last season can he bounce back? if he can he could take sole possesion of third best safety in NFC east but not any higher than that. So Dawk as you can see he is not going to be best FS in league when he is tied for last in his own division.
1)Similiar stats, hits are just as hard, can play the run, but RW cant cover. thats the difference, RW can be a threat, but when a RB or TE moves ous to the slot, he wont be able to cover them like a CB. thats something that dawkins can and does do. 2)Yea i bet, and Carson Palmer is better than Peyton Manning. 3) Same tackles and more INTs but 1, but doesnt get the sacks, or the passes defended. please, whos ever heard of him other than football geeks like us. hes not known for anything, besides hasnt he played for 4 teams before NY?
1)you dont give RW the credit he deserves, he can cover very well, if he couldnt, he wouldnt have been drafted in the top 10.... 2)Sean Taylor does have skills that Dawk doesnt, he can hit, cover, and catch which you admit is a weakness of Dawkins, he is very likely to be a better player at each stage of his career.... 3)Since when does a players reputation in the general public have anything to do with his performance? After all, Alstott continues to make the Pro Bowl at a position he doesnt even play....long story short, the public dont know shit about football, and Brent Alexander is a good football player, just as productive as Brian Dawkins, reguardless of how many teams hes played for....
1) i give him credit, i jsut dont think he can cover. he can blitz, play the run and catch, probably all better than dawkins but i dont think he can cover. besides hes not a true..... 2)Yea he has the talent to be the best, i loved him in miami, and i know FS is a spot were its probblly the easiest to make an immediate impact, but lets wait and see after 9 games. 3)if hes played on a million teams, then he probably never showed any team that he was good enough to stay, 0 pro bows, average stats, no known for hitting.
Brent Alexander was solid for a few years in Pitt then they thought he lost a step and let him go but I guess they were wrong. Very solid underrated Safety.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (Pats37)</div><div class='quotemain'>Brent Alexander was solid for a few years in Pitt then they thought he lost a step and let him go but I guess they were wrong. Very solid underrated Safety.</div> solid maybe, underrated no. underrated is donovin darius
o and i never heard of brent util he was a giants and from sources someone said that he was consistent so i think he is more underrated then a FRANCHISE TAGGED Donovan Darius
If anything Darius is overrated...in 6 seasons, he has 8 total ints...I know ints arent everything, so lets examine more....he has 2 total sacks, nothing to write home about....and 4 FF, in 6 YEARS!!!!!...hes only avg'd 65 tackles a year and he has 24 total passes defenced....Brent Alexander is a productive safety without the buzz, that makes him underrated, Donovin Darius is an unproductive safety with a big reputation, by definition, severly overrated....after veiwing his numbers, I can see why he has 0 career pro bowls....

I believe there are 3 awards there, that say Best Overall NFL Website Best Content NFL Internet Network Award Winner so what now? gospel truth, NFL truth
stats = Facts Facts = the enemy of the phony i.e. you cant spin facts, you can only spin interpretation so when you put numbers in black and white opinion gets pulled away the truth is revealed. So , Dawk drop your opinion look at the FACTS and realize that the eagles are NOT the best they finished 17th in total defense and 22nd in total offense last year. They have a LOT of weaknesses.

how many excuses will you make? how long till you open your eyes and see the truth? how many games will they have to lose before you admit they arent good?

But if they suck so much, so what does that say about every other team in the NFC besides the Panthers. It says a lot about a team that perseveres through the tough time, and still come close to the goal. I will go to my grave believing that had McNabb not gotten hurt by that cheapshot in the NFC Championship game, we would have found a way to win. 4th and 26 all over again.
