Sons of Katie Elder was a nice fun movie. Interesting thing about the man John Wayne, he spoke fluent Spanish.... .....and on a side note, Billy The Kid was also fluent in Spanish and was generally well liked by Mexicans and Mexican Americans straddling the border. And I always liked Lee Van Cleef - he was a cool tough guy type.
There comes a time when you just have to say enough is enough. Jaws 1 & 2 were good. As were Godfather 1 & 2. They had no business taking those two movies any further.
If the Sea World shit couldn't get any worse they then have a friggin shark follow Ellen to the Bahamas. They made the shark into Jason Vorhees. It was ridiculous.
It goes back to what I said to Ron. They churn out total shit and people actually watch it. It's not even a movie. It's ridiculous crap. I'd rather watch Friday the 13th Jason Takes Manhatten in a loop than kill brain cells watching such nonsense.
The original Friday the 13th was filmed with the then new hand held cameras to get those up close shots. I saw it in the theater right after it came out, scared the hell out of me the first time. After that they just got ridiculous.
The early low budget ones were good. Then yes I agree it just got absurd. I thought final chapter was the last decent one.
ha ha good point. The thing about all those movies is the genre took on a life of its own. By continuing the Friday the 13th, Halloween and Nightmare on Elms Street movies for instance they knew the movies would make money because of the strong horror audience.
The first Halloween (Jamie Lee Curtis) was the one which started the modern phycho-slasher genre.....Hitchcock's "Phycho" notwithstanding. Most "critics" thought it would bomb out and was too violently vicious. It became a tremendous success and remains a cult classic.....the great edgey music sound of impending doom...and Blue Oyster Cult's Don't fear the Reaper made it's appearance in the movie. Familiar with various mistakes in movies...?.......there was at least one which you wouldn't notice unless you knew where and when to look...it involved John Carpenter standing behind a bush watching a scene as "Laurie" (Jamie Lee Curtis) was walking down the sidewalk - well, he was a smoker and was smoking during the scene behind the bushes and you can see a puff of smoke coming from behind the bush "Laurie" passes on her way down the sidewalk ....Carpenter said "fuk it" and they left in the movie. Lol.
That was also like "The night of the living dead" I saw the original when I was about 14,15 at a drive in theater. It was in black & white. Since then they've redone it 2-3 times & had all the "Day of the dead" & "Dawn of the dead". It really got stupid.
So low budget but it worked. I went to one of those chiller theater conventions one time in North Jersey. Met a lot of the old horror and science fiction folks. Linda Blair was really nice.
It's actually a horror convention these days. They do it in Parsippany, NJ now but it used to be up in Secaucus, NJ.
Halloween and Michael Meyers came first....just sayin'. first horror film I recall was "don't be afraid of the dark".....recently remade. and I remember seeing Amnityville Horror after seeing the film set in Toms River, NJ as a kid.
