I'm not particularly a Jobs fan. However, Apple with him kicked ass. When he left, Apple sucked hard enough to need a $100M loan from Microsoft. When they got him back, they turned into a behemoth and their entire product line rocks. With him gone, it sure seems like they're lacking in innovation.
I think he had a keen eye and he was definitely a visionary. There really wasn't much difference between him and Gates. Both took advances made by other people and ran with them. With that said, Jobs was an ego maniac and I never got that impression from Gates.
IMO, Microsoft made godawful products all along. They dominated through business practices that got them sued in many nations.
Well, that wasn't really my point. From my understanding, Gates didn't really invent anything. He just purchased the rights to new technology and made a fortune. Is that wrong?
I would argue that Microsoft made amazing products given the fact that they did not control the hardware. the degree of difficulty is so much bigger when you have to be good enough for everyday use while adhering to whatever crazy hardware stuff being thrown at it. I know that this is not a sexy proposition as "inventing" the GUI (by stealing it from Xerox PARC) - but it is a pretty amazing achievement. Microsoft was actually very innovative by being the first ones to really virtualize the modern OS for consumers so it can run on just about any crazy bit of hardware thrown at it.
I'm pretty sure Gates was a computer hacker from the start. Sure he bought DOS, but it was a matter of adapting that software for use in mass market computer systems. Windows was visionary, though it sucked until Windows 95 and still sucks to this day. Perhaps his greatest achievement, and IMO one of the greatest business stories ever, was how M$ was buying ISPs and backbones to build MSN as a compuserve like closed network and rapidly changed direction to support the open internet. The 180 degree turnaround and implementation of HTML (and more) in Office products (and more) was incredible. Jobs definitely was a rare breed. I don't know of anyone who was as visionary and competent as a product designer. That he started NeXt after leaving Apple says a lot.
Who cares, the software is awful. NTFS has got to be one of the worst filesystems ever designed. As the disk filled beyond 10% usage, the entire computer slowed to a crawl. That's just one of my complaints. The UI was adequate as an X terminal, but just terrible for every day use. That I had to run a virus scanner and malware scanner 24/7/365 slows down the system even more. No thanks. The price of whatever crazy hardware is that you had to pay for M$ OS when you bought a computer for the longest time. Whether you wanted it or not.
What's wrong with the LG? I'm looking at the G4. The camera is awesome, my bro has it. Low light photos are insanely good. Are you getting it subsidized, if so I'd go with an Iphone 64GB probably. If you're paying cash I'd go with the LG. The Samsung doesn't let you use swappable batteries anymore or microSD cards.
Iphone 6 = $750 Iphone 6+ = $850 LG G4 = $480 Galaxy Note 4 = $550 Again, I'd stay away from newer Samsungs b/c of no expandability. I liked Samsungs, but again I don't want to support them taking out features I liked of their phones. If you don't need wifi calling (I do) I'd also look at the One Plus Two. https://oneplus.net/ The Nexus 6 is on sale as well. About $350. http://www.ibtimes.com/nexus-6-pric...us-6-2015-expected-launch-450-sept-29-2088280
Looks good. I like the price, screen size, and the battery lasting all day makes me happy. The fact you can use it on any carrier is appealing since I want to burn T-Mobile's corporate office to the ground. :MARIS61:
