So i had a new house built in rural Clark county last August. The guy who lives right next to me moved in shortly after. He’s retired military and moved from Vegas. Probably in his early 50’s. He’s an obvious Trumpster. No big deal.

Everything was cordial when we first met. He’d say hi, I’d say hi, vice versa. Nothing crazy. He said sometime I should come over for a drink, so I thought we were cool.

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when the weather was nice. I got some nice new patio furniture so I invited a couple buddies over for beers. Guy next door was planting some trees so he was out in the backyard. Me and friends were discussing how much of a tool Trump is and how he doesn’t stand a chance, etc…

lol, ever since that day dude has avoided me like the plague. It’s almost awkward. Won’t even look my direction when he’s outside. No skin off my back. I could care less if he’s a Trump supporter. Believe it or not, someone’s political leanings has no bearing on whether I like them or not.

But it brings up the question. Who are the real snowflakes?

    There are different levels.

The hate filled dude with the oversized American and Trump flags in the back of their trucks with the F your Feelings bumper sticker. Yes, screw that guy.

People that support the Republican party regardless of who the candidate is, it gets complicated. There are also many Democrats that do not support many Biden positions but are voting him regardless.

Jan 6th should have been an eye opener. There may be a lot of people I considered friends that I have to distance myself from even more when going back to the Midwest this summer.

Isn't the Moda Center announcer a big Republican?

I have aunts and uncles and cousins that I’ve been close to my whole life that are Trump supporters. Other than the fact that they vote for Trump I completely get along with them. And my uncle is a former pro athlete.

Because I disagree with them politically should I disown them?

It is complicated; Biden is pretty far right of where I'd want to vote, and the Dems seem to know they have a fully captive voter base as long as the Republicans field actual american fascists, so they're doing things like arming the IDF and helping to starve Gazans which would normally be a dealbreaker for me but what am I gonna do, not vote?

That said, if an old-school Republican is voting Trump because Biden doesn't hate queer people enough, I'm afraid I can't truck with that; they might not be cheering about the hate, but they're not prioritizing humans over hate by voting for Trump. Hate is the thing they're willing to accept. Which, I appreciate is a fine slice of the knife versus what I'm doing, but in the face of no other options, I'm not going with the most extreme choice, either.

He’s a Republican who couldn’t stand Trump. So somewhat a unicorn.

There's a range of options between kissing them on the cheek and disowning them. My uncle has facilitated countless war crimes between 1975 and 2015 because of his job at Northrup (lead engineer on a bunch of military projects). I haven't disowned him, but he isn't invited to the cookout either.

I have people that I would give an organ to no questions asked but cannot follow them on Facebook over their political nonsense.

The contradictions here are fucking wild. Just airing your hate out loudly and proudly and claiming it’s because you ‘don’t support hate’. Claiming you don’t do politics while basing your life interactions around the hatred you harbor for people based completely on political opinions.
You really are a special kind of guy.
