    <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">WASHINGTON (AP) -- Gilbert Arenas came with a guarantee.

The biggest free-agent signing of the Washington Wizards offseason held his first news conference with his new team Tuesday, and he sounded ready to defy history.

``I can prove it, and I'm going to do it: We're going to make the playoffs,'' Arenas said. ``We're going to do whatever it takes to make the playoffs this year.''

The Wizards haven't made the playoffs since 1997 and haven't won a playoff game since 1988. Even Michael Jordan couldn't get the team into the postseason in 3 1/2 seasons as a front office executive or player.</div>

Not if the Vince has something to do with it. Looks like the battle for the 8th seed will be the Raptors and Wizards.

I think for the first year of him being on that team, those expectations may be a little high, but we'll have to wait and see.

Who do they have? Arenas and Stack aren't enough. Kwame, Jeffries, and Haywood are going to have to step it up.

Arenas is doing what T-mac did..making guarantees...and Mcgrady has learned his lesson from that...So I hope this doesn't back fire on GA

It probably will, they have a balanced lineup, but I only think Arenas will take over where Jordan left off: 19ppg.

Well, they need Haywood and Kwame steppin up BIG TIME and Kwame could have a breakout year so i think the teams fightin for the 8th seed are the Bulls, Raps, and Wiz

I dont see the Wizards making the playoffs unless Kwame breaks out.

I just think they'll go into a late season slump like they always do, the last seeds in the east are going to be tough to get because the Raptors, Bulls, and now the Cavs and Heat are going to be contending for the eighth seed, along with the Wiz. Thats going to be a tough 8th seed to battle for, I'd say whoever has the best stretch at the end of the season will get it, and the Wizards always seem to slump at that time.

It will be a tight sloppy race..thats the best way to put it. Like I have been saying, get 35 wins, and you will be in the hunt.
