<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">GILBERT ARENAS SAYS he?s been contacted by USA basketball managing director Jerry Colangelo about becoming a member of the U.S. national team. The Washington Wizards point guard said he would accept an invitation to join the squad, which will compete at the world championships in Japan this summer and at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing. ?I couldn?t keep a smile off my face just to be mentioned,? Arenas told The Free Lance?Star. ?Even if they don?t pick me, just to be thought about is a great honor. [Colangelo] asked me for a commitment, and I have no problem with that.? Arenas says Colangelo told him a small group of players will be selected in January while the rest of the pool?which is expected to total about 20 players?will be chosen in February. ?I told [Colangelo] like I tell everybody,? Arenas said, ?If I?m not playing with you guys in the Olympics, I?m going to be playing basketball on the street anyway.? </div> http://fredericksburg.com/News/FLS/2005/12...005/1230wizards
I dunno if I want him there or not he handles the ball way to much he and Kobe...not a good mixture we want Kobe being the primary player so get guys that you canbbuild around him not another guy who takes all of his teams shots even though he hits most of them he wont mix well with Kobe IMO.

You don't pick one player as your cornerstone/superstar player, and build around him with other players. You need a variety of superstars with some role players that fit nicely together. That doesn't necessarily mean you put all the All-Stars together, however, you do need superstars/stars on the team. The USA team will build around those stars with role players, e.g. Battier, Korver, Prince.
i hope they get lebron back to be on team usa, arenas is good but my perfect team usa would be PG lebron, SG kobe, SF t-mac, PF KG, C shaq lol

Team USA cannot just put a whole bunch of stars together. It was proved last summer that can't work. They needs the specialists/role players like Redd, Artest, Wallace etc.
I agree with Bobcats they need those people. If a player is lighting them up then Artest will there. No big name stars on the whole team. They need role players.

I'm not sure if having more of a scoring PG would be nice. If they had Livingston on the team and then played him with Arenas on the floor while Arenas played the 2 offensively but the 1 defensively, and Livingston PG offensively, but the 2 defensively, it would be nice. Arenas' shooting can definately help, he's out of the best outside shooters in the league right now and can spread the floor for them very well. <div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Team USA cannot just put a whole bunch of stars together. Redd is far from being a role player, but I agree with you. Artest is definately not a guy I'd invite, you know he'll do something stupid. Ben Wallace will be too old by the time the Olympics roll around, but Shane Battier is a good pick. 20 players I would pick if they all agreed: PG - Billups | Paul | Livingston | Hinrich SG - Kobe | Wade | Redd | Arenas SF - Lebron | Marion | Battier | Tayshaun | Korver PF - Garnett | Brand | Bosh | Howard C - Duncan | Jermaine | Amare Others: Josh Howard | Rashard Lewis | Iguodala | Channing This is happening in 2 years, so all these young guys now should be even better.
They should send the Detroit Pistons. But since they won't, they shouldn't send Arenas unless he agrees to change his playing style. Whoever it was that suggested that Kobe and Shaq both be there better have been joking. Tim Duncan and JO are the only centers in the league who I would want on the Olympic team, unless we move a pf to center. Marcus Camby is too injury prone, and like I said Shaq wouldn't work well with Kobe.
Good to see some superstars stepping up and playing for their country! Im still goin for australia with Bogut at Center! But u neva see kobe wanting to play for USA

Shaq can't even be sent because he'll be too old, and if he's still playing, his body can't take playing the whole year.
