I think the tweet actually says “Something we’ve been talking about for weeks”
Doesn’t sound like Dan is making any proclamations about inside scoop?

I get that. But the only way the trade works is if the Spurs have more cap-space than Ayton's 1st year salary. Poeltl can't be part of a simultaneous trade if the Spurs don't have enough cap-space...right? Can't be 20M in cap-space + Poeltl's salary = 29M in trade credit...?

seems like it would have to be Ayton to Spurs; top-55 protected pick to Phoenix. Suns get a TPE from 1st trade for half of what Ayton signed for. They then use part of that TPE to accept Poeltl while they send a top-55 protected pick to Spurs

how can Poeltl leave first? That's not a simultaneous trade.

    That's exactly how it works.
    Cap space + Poeltl salary

In this case, Poeltl's contract goes out & Spurs would then have $32M of cap space to receive Ayton.

this might just be a semantic difference. The rule that covers this is:

    upload_2022-6-7_8-22-13.png

    http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q86

The Spurs are below the cap so they can disregard salary matching trade rules. They can make unbalanced trades and all that matters is where they land once the trade is done. I just got a little stuck on timing

George Thompson, one of the most prolific scorers in Marquette University’s history, died from complications of diabetes,

George was one of the nicest guys you'd ever meet. We were friends. I worked with him for years at a Corporation in Brew Town. He was a VP of Communications and PR.
We'd talk Blazers all the time and years back he introduced me to Al McQuire of Marquette. Of course he really talked up Maurice Lucas, who played for Al.
George also did TV & Radio for Bucks & Marquette.
    RIP Big Fella!

I wouldn't trade Ant for AD, but that's just me.

Alright here we go. We know OKC has to get rid of some picks since they don't have roster spots.

So....Denver gets to dump a useless player, and get 3 picks back? What? Denver just got as many picks out of JaMychal Green as we did for CJ McCollum and Larry Nance Jr. LOL

I guess they're also trading a first round pick around the same range.....in 2027. What is going on.

it's OKC using their capspace to kick the can down the road because they can't sign 3 more first round picks this summer. Denver prolly wants the TPE to replace Green with a better fit.

they are trading a first for a first. The first they are getting is the last pick in the first round. The first they are trading could end up being a lot better than #30, it's just 5 years from now. Don't know yet about the 2nd's because I think OKC has about 30 of them over the next 7 years

biggest asset Denver is getting is an 8.7M TPE. They might also be looking to trade up a bit in the draft order using 21 & 30

Green is not a useless player. He is a very good rotation player/defender.

    You sir are mistaken.
Dame/Hart/AD/Nurk win 55 games next season.
    Dame/Hart/Ant/Nurk MAYBE 35?

With AD healthy yeah, we probably win 67% of our games and without him, 45%.

Lets see, he plays 1/2 the season in decent health, may play a few more games but not in optimal health/shape.

    42 * .67 = 28 wins.
    42 * .45 = 19 wins.

Great. We have a 47 win team that is missing a key player for the playoffs (AD).

    Yeah. No thanks.
