Agree to disagree, but I'd be interested in you naming 3 teams you think might be interested, I'd be happy to think about it some more. Not saying you're necessarily wrong, just that I can't think of any teams in which a trade for a $29 mil expiring would make sense.
One thing to note, Melo still has a no-trade clause. I think just about any team that made bad signings in the summer of 2016 would trade for Melo. I doubt the Thunder would though as they are usually cheap and would value his contract off the books in a year rather than take on salary. Some examples: Blazers would trade ET and Leonard for him. Knicks would take him back for Noah and filler. Magic would trade Biyombo and filler for him. Nets would trade Mozgov and Carroll for him. Lakers would trade Deng and filler for him if they strike out this summer in free agency. Hornets would trade any combination of Batum, MKG, Howard, and Marvin Williams for him. Rockets would still trade Ryan Anderson and filler for him. That's just off the top of my head without looking anything up. Granted most of those deals would be bad for OKC but they could definitely dump his contract if they wanted to.
It's a travel. The "way the game is played" has no relevance. If they want it to be allowed they should change the rules.
The way the game is played is very relevant. They don't call it, so the players do it. Your precious Blazers do the exact same thing as the hated Rockets and Thunder do. It's the way the game is played.
CJ? Yes. You're completely wrong about Dame. He has like 5-7 DIFFERENT stepback Jumpers. All Of which are completely fundamental, cone drill moves.
