well, in terms of DRPM rankings for nba PF's:

    4th - Noah Vonleh 2.65
    9th - Ed Davis 2.07 .....(we know he's not really a PF)
    14th - Al-Farouq Aminu 1.68
    51st - Zach Collins 0.75
    79th - John Collins -0.11

    also, an overall comparison:
    http://bkref.com/tiny/dJ3CJ

Olshey got rid of 2 bigs who were better at defense than Collins. I don't think defense has ever been an Olshey priority. Vonleh has been outperforming both of the Collins

at this point, it looks like John Collins has a bigger advantage on offense than Zach does on defense and is essentially the same age. That 'snapshot-in-time' could look different at the end of this season, but I doubt either player has an 'upside' advantage at this point considering their ages.

Zach been in the league 2 years and the other 2 ex Blazers been in the league a lot longer. I am not saying I don't like the other 2 ex and I thought Vonleh got the shaft from Stotts. Davis was good too. But Zach in the long run probably will be has good or better. Now offense John Collins gets plays run for him and Zach doesn't. Plus do you think John Collins would be the same player that he is today if he played for us I don't.a Anyway here there defense ratings:

    Davis 102
    Zach. 103
    John C 106
    Vonleh 108

But not this year. It was way too early to let Ed Davis go. We are losing games because of Collins replacing Davis so poorly. Olshey fell in love with his own draft pick as usual.

Zach not the reason while we have play poorly. Yes Davis might be better rebounder right now but offensely Zach has been better and his just little below Davis on defense but not much. There whole a lot reason that we wasn't winning and if you if you believe if we had Davis still and the outcome would be different I would say no.

Every time Collins makes a rookie foul, or has to sit because of fouls, or the opposing coach has his scorers drive on Collins because of his inexperience--and all happen throughout every game--having Davis as an option would have made a difference. Olshey was way too trigger-happy to get rid of Davis so early in Collins' career.

That your opinion but also Zach block shots and alternate shots too. The only thing I seen Davis actually do better than Zach is the rebounding. Zach score more and he blocked more shots better FT shooter there fg pretty close there defense ratings are close. Yes Zach does foul more. Blazers are 15-11 and the Nets 10-18. I know you like Davis and I like Davis too. Your might be right they should have sign him another year. But the way be been playing except the last 2 games I believe our record would probably be the same.

I think they're trying to find a 3rd team to take KCP.

The G League has a deal with Daily Motion for both individual performance videos
as well as weekly updates. Here's some highlights of former Duck Chris Boucher. Looks like he's doing pretty well on Toronto's G league affiliate.

defensive ratings are nearly useless for individual players. They are far too team-centric to use as gauges, at least if you're just arriving at some conclusion based upon those individual numbers.

DRPM, while having some flaws, is a much better gauge. About the only use for defensive rating for individual players is how far below, or above, a player is from the team rating

and I have no clue where you're getting those defensive rating numbers. BBREF says Portland's defensive rating ranking looks like this:

    Jusuf Nurkic 105
    Maurice Harkless 107
    Al-Farouq Aminu 108
    Meyers Leonard 109
    Zach Collins 109
    Jake Layman 110
    Evan Turner 110
    Damian Lillard 112
    CJ McCollum 113
    Nik Stauskas 114
    Seth Curry 116

(could Olshey have had a worse summer in terms of defensive signings?)

Portland's team rating is 110.3, so Zach, at 109 is 1.3 better than the team. That's good but hardly surprising for a 'big man'. Vonleh, at 110, is 1.6 better than his team. Ed Davis, at 107 is 4.4 better than his team so he easily has the edge in this stat. John Collins is 1.9 worse than his team; that's not good, but he also is 18.7 points better than his team in offensive rating. Theoretically, that gives him a net rating of +16.8. Zach is 2.8 points better in offensive rating giving him a net of +4.1. Now, John Collins was injured and has only played in 11 games so there are sample size issues there. On the other hand, he's a starter so he likely spends more time playing against starters than Zach does

but just like defensive rating, offensive rating is mostly a team gauge

personally, I'm OK with Zach rather than John Collins. I'm not ok with Ed Davis being allowed to walk, especially after Vonleh was traded. But like I've been saying Olshey seems to be a clown when it comes to defensively competent players

I heard some talk about Damyean Dotson being available from the Knicks. Latest rumour has him going to the Pistons:

Now that had me thinking- is there a way the Blazers can get their hands on Dotson instead? Would be such a great fit.

    - Great size at SG, decent size at SF, solid wingspan. (6-6, 6-9 wingspan)
    - Strong as an ox, pro-pro, always in great shape.
    - Comes of the bench and plays within strengths.
    - Strong rebounder and defender, improved shooter (now almost at 40% from long range).
    - Cheap contract.
    - Started out at Oregon.
    - Not a great playmaker.

It's a shame we don't have 2nds in '19 or '20 or any incoming picks.

What would you give up for him? Knicks probably would ask for Anfernee Simons. Could Trent & Caleb work in some sort of way? Could be a great addition to the squad as it adds size and shooting.

Don't see why we'd need to add another Stauskas.
