    Lakers falling apart without Lonzo.

If we were actually willing to part with CJ at the time, combined with a pick which we had three of at the time, we would have probably landed him. CJ’s value was higher than Oladipo’s back then (not anymore) and nobody really knew what Sabonis was (he’s awesome).

probably close to true, although the wild card is not knowing exactly how Indiana's front office was evaluating Oladipo and Sabonis. The Pacers have seemed to place a higher than normal priority on defense, and that was an Oladipo strength. And Sabonis had just finished his rookie season so 3 years were left on his rookie deal. It might be that Indiana thought a lot more highly of the pair than the rest of NBA punditry

I just think how much better Portland would be right now with Dame-PG13-Nurkic as the big-3 than with Dame-CJ-Nurk; it's not a close call. Paul George would fit perfectly and the mesh between him and Dame would be quite a bit better than him and Westbrook, IMO. And PG13/Nurk would be a lot better than CJ/Nurk. And that's true even with Zach being a casualty of the trade.

for the 'it's-a-perfect-world-fun' (and agony), assume CJ + 15th pick + future protected 1st for PG13. Blazers use 20 + 26 on Kuzma and Josh Hart; or on Jarrett Allen and Kuzma. After all, in this perfect world, in order to do the CJ trade we'd have a different GM and he wouldn't have sat on his hands afterward...he would have secured Portland a functional SG!

I liked your post, even though it makes me sad.

Forget PG13 for a moment. Imagine having a GM smart enough to offer CJ for *one* of Sabonis or Oladipo. (yes, there would need to be cap filler involved) We've had bad GMs in the past (way too many) but none of them seemed to over-rate our players as badly as Olshey.

And then he underrates the guys we feel are already underrated, like Ed Davis and Noah Vonleh. Olshey is chasing harmony via extremes.

Yeah if I were to build a player that fits in perfectly with Lillard and Nurkic then Paul George would probably be very close to what I would have built. Just perfect.

I don't feel bad because it's the Rockets but it's kind of bullshit that the league office is closed down today when there are games going on and that the Melo trade won't be approved until tomorrow. They had to waive Nunnaly in order for Faried to play tonight.

I don't get how the league office can't process a trade today but they can process Houston signing Faried and waiving Nunnaly?

    Seriously honest question:

Would you rather have Meyers Leonard or Carmelo Anthony in the 2nd unit?

We have players on this team just as flawed as Melo and making far more money. I'm not a fan of the guy, but our bench is so up-and-down that if we could sign him for a deal similar to what he got in Houston it would seem a minimal risk.
