Still pretty risky if he gets hurt. He obviously was not happy in Detroit, for whatever reason.
I guess he could have felt slighted by their offer. Maybe his agent convinced him he deserved more.

Detroit renounce him so he became UFA.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
As I recall, he turned down the extension offer earlier this year. He likely fell into the same trap that so many others did: thinking the "crazy" contracts of last year would continue this year. People assumed Noel was all but guaranteed to generate a max offer, people on this forum thought Plumlee would get $15M+, etc. Last year, Caldwell-Pope would have gotten a max. That's almost certainly why he turned the offer down, IMO: he expected to get a max this off-season.

The only player who managed to get that truly ridiculous deal has been Otto Porter, and that's just because Nets thought it'd be funny to trick Wizards into giving him one.

    Tim Hardaway Jr...

At least Porter is a good player. Hardaway's deal is such a Knicks move. It's getting to the point where I literally can't imagine the Knicks ever being a serious basketball outfit for as long as Dolan owns it.

When Jeffrey Loria gives up ownership of the Marlins in another month or so then Dolan probably gets the title of worst owner in pro sports.

    5 ppg is killing it?

Outside of the 5x5 game, he's averaging fewer points, blocks and rebounds than Collins (who is playing pretty crappy), and far fewer points and rebounds than Swanigan, and barely more blocks per game.

??? I've been a fan of Bell since watching him in the tournament, despite the fact that I am a Husky and he played for the Ducks.(much to @ripcityboy's chagrin.)

Edit: I just got what you meant after reading it again. Touché.

This seems like a big deal to me. I always assumed that a lot of the discussion that led to trade deadline deals occurred during the all-star break.

I feel like this makes more sense. Lets traded players start fresh with their new teams post all-star break
