IIRC, Adelman went from Community College coach to working for the Blazers. Hiring Roy as an assistant and letting him learn from the ground up seems just as reasonable.

Obvious caveat: sometimes the best players make the worst coaches (EG Magic Johnson). Sometimes a guy who had to fight tooth and nail just to make the team understands the game better than a guy who had it comparatively easy.

    Hello darkness, my old friend
I don't think it's a question of who fought or who had it easy. It's a question of having teaching skill, skill in thinking creatively about scheme and interpersonal skills--being a great player (or a scrub player) doesn't tell you anything about those skills. All having been a player in the past means is that you have immersed yourself in the game for years--that's a good foundation, but it still comes down to which individuals have those aforementioned skills.

Just occurred to me that the Spurs are in last place in their division. I had to check--it's been 33 years since the last time the Spurs finished last. Even in the Admiral injury year, the Grizzlies finished behind them.

Kind of an impressive streak that may be coming to an end.

Surprises me to find that the next-longest such streak appears to belong to the Indiana Pacers. They were last in their division for most of the 80's, and haven't been since.

Did you know the vikings came in last in the NFC North in 2010, 2011, and 2013. Last time the Packers did that was 2005. :)
I just wanted to point that out. :)

This doesn't really belong here, and I don't know how old it is, but J-Will sure is a humble dude:

To this day, if there was only one player I was allowed to watch highlights of, I'd probably pick him.

I find Charles Barkley a really fun listen too, even when he's being crazy.

Play finishing bigs who don't defend at a high level are always going to be tough contract negotiations.

Production almost always outweighs impact and it becomes incredibly difficult to build a really good team with one making the max or close to it.

Yeah, I think the right play is to let him get to restricted free agency if you want to keep him or just trade him before the deadline next year if not. Just hope no one offers him a max and try to negotiate a better deal.

I've pretty much given up but tonight will be the final straw if the Blazers lose. They would only be a half game away from the 10th best lottery odds if that happens.

It will still be fun to see Nurk on the floor though.

Dont really care if they lose the rest of their games. Would like to see some nice games from Nurk though. Thats why I’ll keep watching.

And with that, the NBA season has been suspended.
