I saw this mentioned in regards to some other team, but I think you basically play Smith at the 3 on defense, 4 on offense, close to the basket, with Aldridge stretching the floor. Obviously rotations change that, sometimes you just go small with Smith at the 4, whatever. I'd be intrigued by the idea of grabbing him, having him as someone else on the wings who could be physical defender with harden, Durant, James, Anthony, etc.

I wouldn't be in favor of getting Josh Smith to be a starter. We have the starters we need. Detroit's problem is that they gave him a huge contract and they were shitty, so basically they HAD to start him. But he didn't fit. We would be picking him up after people have been absolutely trashing him and saying, "you get to refurbish your image by kicking ass in a Odom-for-the-Lakers, Diaw-for-the-Spurs kind of way." If he wasn't prepared to do that, then fuck him.

He better hope that Kobe has never heard of 82games.com. I won't bother to post the relevant advanced stats, but as Boozer's absolute numbers have declined, his "contributions" have become an even bigger net loss. They lost Pau and Kaman and replaced them with Boozer. In spite of D'Antoni's complete inability to use two big men at the same time, Pau and Kaman were at least somewhat productive on that train wreck of a team. The Bulls had Noah and Gibson to help cover up for Boozer's ineptitude. The 2014-15 Lakers won't have that luxury.

This is what I hate about Josh smith. He has taken 1206 3's in his career and shoot a 28% on them. He got paid and played like he didn't care last year, he is an ultra talented head case and if you can keep him inline and away from the 3p line he can be a great but with a team shooting as many 3's as the Blazers I don't think you could keep him off the 3p line.

Yep, Kobe is going to be making $30.5 million and be absolutely furious. He may very well be the angriest rich man in history.

It would be awesome to get Cousins. He is already showing he is going to be a force for years to come in the league

Isn't he on pretty close to a max contract? Time to get him was last summer I believe. Next to no chance now.

I think he got a max. There was never a chance to get him once the kings were sold.

I was unaware that who starts was settled by salary and not by the coach.

According to this, DHO took 30mil less to NOT play with Kobe. I always expected that was the case. Hahaha LA good fucking luck building anything now that your star cant carry the team and eats all the salary cap for himself. "The secret of winning a championship" by Kobe Bryant, lol.

A bit tongue-in-cheek, but why would you? You realize that you get the same offensive efficiency and points per possession (and, potentially, more floor spacing) than if, say, there was someone shooting 42% on 1200 15-23 footers...It seems a bit of collective cognitive dissonance.

But back to the topic...swapping out Wes and contracts for Smith would be a good buy-low/sell-high talent upgrade. I think Smith would be a more post-oriented (and better on D for 3's/4's) Crash Wallace, and while I like Wes a lot, I think the clear talent upgrade and movement toward this being Damian's (and LMA's, quietly) locker room gives POR the opportunity to make a move like that.

Obviously I agree. It's fully acceptable for a guy making 13.5 million this season to come off the bench!

You kind of made my argument in your next post: I wouldn't be in favor of getting Josh Smith to be a starter. We have the starters we need. Detroit's problem is that they gave him a huge contract"

The dude makes too much money for someone who can't shoot from the outside in our offense. (as a SF) If we were a fast breaking team he would be fine as he is good in the open court. But half court offense he struggles. I think we can teach TRob not to shoot from the outside, Josh will shoot if open. He just is not as good as he thinks and because of that he is a malcontent. Always thinks he is disrespected. Not the best locker room guy.
