Artest's full season suspesnion in light of Ben's measly 6 IS harsh. If you're going to try to tag the blame on someone, then everyone is at fault here. The only part I don't understand is the fans throwing beer. What a waste of beer! Especially arena beer, that stuff is expensive.

Fans interjected themselves into this game by comitting battery on a player (Artest). Don't get me wrong, by no means am I excusing Artest. My problem is that Ben Wallace completely overreacted and by doing so, ignited the Piston fans to basically go nuts. The second a fan threw the cup, the line was crossed. Obviously Artest compounded it, but the fans crossed the line before the player did, yet by doing so, the fan was basically able to shape an entire NBA season and eliminated his own teams biggest competiton. The fact that the Piston organization suffered no consequences and basically benefitted from this makes me absolutely sick.
The Pistons organization also needs to step-up and take some responsibility here. Whether that is a suspension of games at the Palace for the season, or whatever, they need to face consequnces as well for their fans behavior and their own lack of adequate security. To punish the Pacers alone to the benefit of the Pistons is the problem. It is unfair.

Stern admitted that Artest's past factored into his decision. And what about his priceless answer to the question about why Fred Jones wasn't suspended as well? "Uh...Uh..." He stammered and stuttered on that one. Clearly a double standard considering that others got 1-gm suspensions for leaving the bench. Just like the Lakers/Kings tunnel brawl, the league didn't get the suspensions right. They seriously need to reword that "no leave bench" rule to exclude players who act as peacemakers.

So Detroit doesn't have Big Ben, no Eldon Campbell.

Well what kind of message does this send to fans of the NBA, dude who threw the beer now becomes a hero to some for the simple fact, he single handedly got rid of the one team(probably the only team in the east) that could stop the Pistons from repeating as champs. It send the message that if you push the buttons of you favorite teams biggest & strongest rivial, you can actually end up have a serious impact on a future playoff outcome. I dont think thats a good message to send to fans. Pistons & their fans actually ended up being rewarded for their actions, so whats to keep the next set of drunken fans from pulling a similar stunt. It might not be in Detriot, doesnt even have to be in basketball, I still think they sent the wrong message to sports fans in general.

He ran out of the locker room when a buch of fans were throwing stuff at O'Neal and he jumped one of them. Tinsley is at the bottom of the screen with the dustpan. Greg Anthony said he spoke to him and Tinsley said he was going to throw it but thought better of it.

The way for the NBA to counter act this is to allow the team to determine which players miss which games. The team cannot do anything for Ron Artest, unless the Player Union steps in and files an appeal to reduce the suspension. All this is going to effect the looming lockout as well in a bad way. :thumbsdow

Think of what these guys did. Sure, everything was out of control, but there is no excuse for how far Artest crossed the line. He had beer thrown at him, you can't justify his reaction based on that. I, like Artest, am not a level headed individual, but if I ever crossed the line like that I would expect a similar punishment.

I think that the fans involved will get whats coming to them. I don't think the league is sending any kind of bad message here. The NBA dosen't have control of its fans like it does its players, so yes, the players were the first to suffer.

ESPN just announced that the Players Association will in fact appeal the rulings.

Yep. Artist went after the fan who threw the beer at him, and I can see why he would. But what about the fan that walked on the court to confront Artest? This obviously wasn't the same guy, and he obviously wasn't an innocent bystander. He walked out there looking for trouble and trouble is what he got, regardless of the angel he portrays himself to be on TV.

The NBA needs to take more action with their ans just like they did with the players
The suspension definitley fits the crime. The pacers are seriously in hurt now that their three top scorers are on the bench for more than 25 gamesArtest O'neal and Jackson.Artest is out for the season that stinks.

    Artest suspension

Do you think that the suspension for Ron Artest is fitting. and How long should it be? I agree with the suspension because artest has been thinking he is better than everyone else by asking for time off for a record deal and now pushing Ben Wallace to start a serious fight amoung fans and players.
