This is America, we can debate about whatever we want regardless of whether we can do something about the actual incident or not. Chill out <font color="Red">EDIT.</font>

Simple rule for the Pacers, do not go into the stands, ever; especially not 10-20 rows. Every professional athlete knows that.

Notice how neither Billy Hunter nor any player has come out and said "we never knew that if you went into the stands you would be suspended for a year"??? Because they know the rules.

And what was this all for? A beer thrown from the stands. Sure that's wrong, but does not justify getting pummelled.

If anything Stephen Jackson got off light; that guy was just looking for guys to punch.

Billy Hunter did NOT know the rules for this. There's no rule on this matter. If anything, Billy would think Artest get around 10, 20, maybe 30 games tops. Why would he think like that? Vernon punched a guy 9 years ago and only got 10 games.

Yes it's wrong. Yes it doesn't justify getting pummpelled. But is it right to suspend him the whole year? No. Refer to the other thread.

Uh oh, more trouble for the Pacers

<div class="quote_poster">Quote:</div><div class="quote_post">Jermaine O'Neal, whose most egregious work might not have been captured on videotape. O'Neal, according to sources familiar with the ongoing criminal proceedings in suburban Detroit, is being investigated for allegedly having hit a police officer during the brawl. So just because the NBA gave O'Neal 25 games doesn't mean that's all he will get for his role in the melee.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting BBall Guru:</div><div class="quote_post">lol what? How are the aurhorities supposed to know when someone is going to throw a cup? They aren't exactly mind readers! unless you are saying that the perhaps if the fans were yelling obsenities that he should have been escorted out. I agree with that.</div>

hey if the palace had proper security then maybe the whole situation could have been avoided. how is that in other arenas that we never see someone throw stuff? cuz the security guys can clearly be seen and there are a lot of them. when fights break out security guys immediatly form a barrier and are on a high alert.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting shapecity:</div><div class="quote_post">Easily. There was 46 seconds left in the game. As soon as the fight broke out security should have surrounded the arena floor the same way they do when a game normally ends. They become a barrier between the fans and the players and react immediately to any trouble makers. It's standard procedure, but in this case the security was very unorganized and late to respond to the situation. Running out onto the court armed with mace once the melee was already over with was a clear example of how ineffective this group of security personnel was.</div>Yeah but that isn't what he said in the post that I was responding to.

He said that security shouldn't have allowed the guy to throw the bottle. There is no way that any amount of security can stop an idiot from throwing a cup. They CAN take care of him AFTER he throws it, but they cannot PREVENT something like that from happening.

I belive that Stern is being too stern on Artest and O'neal.... Stephen Jackson deserves just as much time as Artest for his actions IMO. Jackson should have had no part in the scuffle as well as O'Neal but if you where to say that any other player after being shoved in such a physical way by Wallace and (you know that got the juices flowin) Wouldn't have done the same thing after being hit by a cup of beer?!?!?!
