Shumpert is a chump; a career .396% shooter, bad defender (career DRtg of 106), low efficiency (career PER of 10.9). He's literally the one guy in this thread WORSE than Arron. The only reason anyone thinks they like him is because of his hair. He's an AWFUL PLAYER.

Seriously? DeAndre "Can't play in the fourth quarter of close games because he couldn't make a free throw" Jordan?

No thanks. Not even remotely interested.

My final point on the discussion:

Regular season 5-man lineups (from basketball-reference): With Wes we were +12.7 points per 100 possessions. With Arron instead of Wes we were -4.3 points per 100. That's a 17 point swing in the wrong direction.

It's not really fair to compare a guy who played with the same teammates and for the same coach most of his career to a guy who played 25 games coming in cold and then played badly injured.

Let's be honest here. We aren't talking about some young player or "career backup player". Afflalo even mentioned he's a starter. It's really not hard for a proven vet to work themselves into the starting lineup when you are used to being a starter, a seasoned vet and asked to mainly defend and hit wide open shots.

This is a good point, but Afflalo is a professional and gets paid to learn quickly. Our offense isn'y byzantine, and Wes's role is tunes to Arron's skillset: occasional post ups, spot shooting. Nevertheless, we performed much worse without Wes. Maybe they lost heart and gave up. Maybe the opponent got better while we stayed the same. Maybe hand injuries to Robin and LA made Arron look worse. All are possible.

But, as much as I liked Arron's fire, we underperformed while he was in the game in an industry where wins matter. Maybe we'll regret not resigning a soon-to-be 30 year old career 12.6 PER player... but maybe we won't. I'm personally willing to risk it.

I was holding back because I didn't want to be banned. Shumpert is dogshit that some people think is really good for NO DISCERNABLE REASON. It's crazy-making.

So he should have been a one armed impact player then because he's a vet? He clearly was hobbled and the pressure to fill Wes shoes on the fly was a lot to compensate for after a couple dozen games.

Playing injured, the guy played his heart out in the finals. He has shot over 40% from three for the season w/the Nix (51/127). Whatever his drtg, he scrambles like a s.o.b. on defense. Plus, he has mad hops . . . The biggest problem I see is that the Cavs have promised to match any offer.

I wanted Arron back at his previously existing contract: As insurance until Wes is 100%, as a backup to Wes and Nico, as insurance in case Wes doesn't come back at 100%, and as a trade-able asset at the trade deadline.

I'd consider taking him back for more years at less money, on a trade-able contract.

But if Arron wants more than $8 million? Sayonara, adios, auf wiedersehen, do svidaniya, tootle-00, a jamais, see ya, wouldn't wanna be ya.

If he thinks he has the Blazers over a barrel, I hope he's the only one.

I guess he should have just sat out the rest of the season after he hurt his shoulder. Would have protected his value. Less people bashing on him.

But dat defense tho! You could have a decent foul shooter brought in to spot him in hack a Shaq situations.

I hope you don't think I'm bashing on him. I just don't think he's worth more than he's currently making.

Maybe his agent has a destination in mind. Maybe they are working something out with the Blazers that is mutually beneficial.

I can certainly see why Arron would want to get locked up for more years, now.

More years at less money = sure. More years at more money = I don't think so.

Protected his value? What did he do pre-injury to warrant a pay raise?

IMHO, his contract was more than fair. I'm sure he WANTS a raise - but what did he do to earn it?

So if Arron leaves, that helps our cap situation, right?

And if Arron signs with us for a smaller, longer-term contract, that helps our cap situation too, right?

Or we could sign-and-trade him, right?

    Options?
