"Sea Ice Levels at Record Lows at Both Poles" "102 Million dead California trees 'unprecedented in our modern history,' officials say" "Earth has lost half of its wildlife in the last 40 years"
But by all means, let's talk about Hamilton. (Not getting at you, Sly, but we'd kind of hope for more from the NY Times.)
We need to start holding countries like China and India responsible for their part in this. When your sky looks like this... ...then you are part of the fucking problem. It's time for the international community to get serious about holding these assholes accountable for this shit. I hear a lot of well-meaning people bitching and moaning about coal and oil in this country, and whining about "eco-friendly solutions". But they are ignoring the biggest culprits of why our world is polluted in the first place. And it has nothing to do with Republicans, Coal, or Oil.
Guess what? They know they're part of the problem. They're investing hugely in solar - that's why the price of solar has plummeted. They didn't just elect a leader who says that climate change is a hoax. Maybe look to the beam in our own eye first? Or is blaming "the other" really your solution to every single problem?
Tell you what: when our pollution gets as bad as theirs, then you can whine to me about it. Until then, you don't have much of an argument here. Snort. You mean like the way you continue to blame a man who hasn't even been sworn in yet for problems which have existed long before he was even relevant? Get over yourself.
You know that we have pumped massively more greenhouse gases into the air than they have, right? From the mere fact that they've been way behind us in industrialization? And you know that London looked worse than that for over a century? And you do know that it's not just about what the air looks like? But the rise in global temperatures and the acidification of the seas, and the giant islands of garbage, etc. etc.? You do KNOW that, right?
Really? Quote me doing that. Cuz I was unaware that all those swastikas were already there, and it's only now that people have noticed.
Actually, this is one area where a Trump win might actually be a good thing. Apparently, the one year where emissions of harmful gasses slowed dramatically was 2009, because of the financial crisis. So maybe if the economy does tank it will have good side-effects.
What's your point? This sounds like a WORLD problem; not a US problem. And if you're conveniently ignoring the role China and other shithole countries play in this problem, then you're a fool. This thread is starting to look to me like you just wanted an excuse to bitch about America. We know you hate Trump. Now get over it. Gee, maybe if we bring jobs back here to the US, where we have modern checks, controls, and regulations in place, that might help. Because it's quite clear that these countries don't GET it, and don't care about this stuff. Don't give me red herring. We're talking about the environment here, not swastikas (which, BY THE WAY, were around long before Trump got here; and he's no more responsible for the rise of hate than Obama is responsible for the rise of the New Black Panthers Party). So make up your mind what exactly you would like to complain about. Just proof that you hate the guy, and that you just want an excuse to bitch about him and America. You've done NOTHING but bitch about this guy at every turn. Every post you make has some snide comment in it about him, and now you're blaming America for world pollution? Get the fuck outta here with that.
Those pictures were what Los Angeles looked like on its bad days until new environmental laws started cleaning it up in the 70s. There were many bad days every year, like, half the days. I saw many college students from the East complaining, then transferring back to Eastern colleges because of the smog. It seemed unliveable unless you were used to it. Bill Clinton agreed to the Kyoto Protocols, it was all set up, then Bush became President and shockingly scuttled it. Then Republicans blocked any new efforts. For example, Denny says the effort would cost too much. So I say, why doesn't the government study the cost. I have seen no figures. At least the cheaper parts of the job could get done, leaving the expensive parts to argue about. Denny opposes coming up with any numbers. Emotional stonewalling. It's like religion to him. No rational debate. It's like the Catholic Church 800 years ago. It just pisses me off that we don't have many blue ribbon studies (made by both sides) with competing cost figures, so we'd have numbers to argue. Republican legislators stay in power only by carefully representing their rich campaign contributors and keeping the U.S. information-free.
http://www.climatechangenews.com/20...rs-of-the-worlds-first-climate-change-treaty/ It was hailed as an “environmentally strong and economically sound” deal by US president Bill Clinton, speaking just after agreement had been reached in 1997. “It reflects a commitment from our generation to act in the interests of future generations,” he said. Washington’s lawmakers disagreed, the Senate voting 95-0 against the treaty, and Clinton’s successor George W Bush withdrew US support in 2002, labelling it “fatally flawed”.
The vote would have been a trifle different under President Gore. It was in the bag till Bush opposed it. More important is the lack of quantitative debate ever since, because Republicans made the government studying it illegal. Just like drugs.
Because we don't have the MONEY to study the cost. Where is it going to come from? Taxes? Do you have any idea how screwed up taxes are in this country? And now you want to take billions of dollars (and yes, it will cost that much) to study for a bill that would take decades of study? Maybe if we eliminate needless spending in this country, like giving money to people who aren't supposed to be here, giving money to countries that hate us, and giving money to corrupt organizations like the Clinton Foundation, then perhaps we can use that money to study bills for Climate Change, and treaties for such. But we're $19 Trillion in debt. I'm not sure where you think we have the money for giant projects like this right now.
