Bingo. In the right role Asik's a really useful player so the basic principal of the deal makes sense. But potentially giving up a high lottery pick for a 1 year rental is really stupid. And given that Houston HAD to give up Asik in order to get cap space you'd think that they'd be able to protect it out the wazoo and still acquire him. Would've expected it to be top 20 protected in year 1, top 14 year two, top 10 year 3, etc. This is the sort of deal that reeks of an impatient owner wanting things to happen quickly.
I didn't realize that Davis played so much PF. Obviously, Asik's shooting range is pretty much 5 feet and in. I guess if Davis can develop a solid mid-range game it can work.
I think more on the defensive end, it keeps Davis from having to handle a more physical post presence. Keeps Davis out of foul trouble. Keeps the physical toll off of him.
