To me, Biggie looks like what you'd get if you combined Charles Barkley, Hakeem Olajuwon and probably Chris Webber. He is all things to all people.
Can Kenneth Faried shoot the 3 ball? Caleb shot over 44% in 3s in college. So, it is part of his game. I can see him close games for us at the #4 spot.
BTW, I don't care what he or the announcers say, I am pronouncing his last name like swanky, not swan
I'm not sure the Green and Love comparisons are accurate or necessary. In today's NBA, it is advantageous to have PF who can hit the three, handle the ball, rebound, pass and cover wings on the PnR. Green does that. Biggie looks like he will be able to do that too, but bigger, longer, and a bit slower. Biggie and Green are not the same player, but the do somewhat fit into the same category.
I think Swanigan just needs consistent court time to get his game to the next level...he should do what Meyers did next offseason and hire his offseason trainer. It's not unusual for a sophomore big to have holes in his game still. He could easily become another Kurt Thomas type player and he'd probably be better off on a bottom feeding team where he'd have a chance to be a rotation player or he may do what CJ, Crabbe, Layman, Connaughton did and break out in his 3rd season. The coaching staff and roster really are the only folks who have a big picture of his game. Dame has praised him in the past after practices...I take that into account
Stotts won't give Caleb the time of day. He will be another player who doesn't get the chance to develop and will be traded as filler or let go after his contract expires.
Problem this season over previous seasons is there just aren't many garbage time games...we're not blowing out teams with a safe enough margin to give the 3rd string any burn.
Neil is hardwired to look for sneaky steals. He can't help but veer of the obvious course. I think it's how he shows his artistic side. "Tricked you again!" he shouts condescendingly then dives into a tanning bed. See: practically the entire Trail Blazer roster.
A big that set screens, rebounds, passes, spaces the floor...makes the game easier for Dame and CJ. I also think they liked his work ethic, pedigree (top 10 recruit) and the idea that there may be some untapped athletic upside with him as he continued to get into better shape and worked with NBA trainers. This staff seems to weigh the interview process / personality traits of prospects pretty heavily as well. And when you hear Biggie talk, it's not hard to believe in the kid.
Taking him is one thing, guaranteeing his contract next year is another. I can understand the reasoning behind drafting him, shit even I liked him. Why they guaranteed his contract for next season after seeing him play, I’ll never understand.
