Should your gay friends be allowed to join the military, get married, adopt children, work a job, visit partners in hospital? Do you tell them you consider them detestable? What is so detestable about gay "behavior"? Do all gays "behave" in exactly the same way? Do all straights behave in exactly the same way? Why is it "values" to say you detest someone, not because they have harmed you or anyone else, but just because they exist?

Let's see. "I absolutely detest Black culture and behavior but I have Black friends, I'm not a racist, detesting the way Black people behave (which are all alike) shows I have values".

Or better. "I absolutely detest Christian acts and behavior. I have Christian friends, I'm not a religious bigot, detesting the way Christians behave (which are all alike) shows I have values".

Sure, you're not a homophobe. Yep.

He just doesn't like the thought of 2 guys sucking each other off! Case closed! That's the main problem that straight men have with gay men.

Who gives a flying fuck. If they are having a good time doing whatever and do not harm anyone else - what is the problem?

There is a lot of insecurity going around for whatever reason - and for a rather silly reason. Oh my god, She likes Avocado, She must be a witch- burn her.

Some people like fat woman, some like thin ones - who cares?

Re: At FanFest, who was that adorable dark haired man who led the players through dri

That's my opinion, but straights claim the right to care about what we do, or the fact that we exist, but they are not, you know, homophobes or anything.

I find the idea of a man stuffing a penis into a woman repellant. In fact, I find male bodies a turn-off. So hard and hairy, yuck. Legs badly shaped. I mean, I've seen some guys with nice faces and hair, but the rest...

That does not mean I think straight men should be kicked out of the military, forbidden to marry, fired from their jobs, forced into suicide, raped, beaten to death, have their children taken away. Or even prevented from holding a woman's hand in public. And I don't go from my personal distaste to saying I absolutely detest all their acts, or implying that all heterosexuals "behave" the same way (my brother is a loving husband, Newt Gingrich is not).

Or saying I absolutely detest someone but I'm not a bigot. Come on, you think this is new?

    "I'm not a racist but, ..."

"I'm not a male chauvinist, but..."

Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose.

So many generalizations/stereotypes in this post that I don't know where to start.

So ... I won't. Other than pointing out your own narrow-minded views, of course.

I really believe the views held regarding gays/lesbians have a lot to do with exposure. My Father, who had never met an openly gay person till his 40's had a really hard time accepting something that seemed so foreign to him. He is now 66 and has met many many gay people in academia and become much more comfortable around them, and this comfort level has influenced a change in him to where he now supports gay marriage and total parity between gays and straights.

I on the other hand grew up with close openly gay friends in high school and believed for a while that my sister was gay. Knowing and respecting my sister and gay friends has allowed me to be very comfortable with gays from a young age. I do not feel awkward having emotional conversations with gays about mine or their relationships. Growing up with many gays around has really made me not give a shit about that aspect of someones life. I just wish that more people had grown up with gay/lesbianism being a routine thing in life so that the subject would bore them and they could base opinions of a person on their character.

That belief has been born out by actual studies. People (straight-identified) who have neighbors, family members, colleagues, etc. whom they know to be gay are more likely to support LGBT rights. Because it's easy to hear Carl Paladino and Christine O'Donnell and James Dobson and think OMG I don't want some child molesting, sex in public, deviant around me and my kids. But when you see the same sex couple next door mowing the lawn and playing ball with their kids, it doesn't fit the stereotype.

Speaking of Paladino, although he says Gay Pride Parades are "disgusting" and no one should ever learn that GLBT people are, you know, equal human beings, his son managed a gay club in a building he owned. And another gay club was run from a building Paladino owned. So he really has no problem with gay money, just the people who spend it.

I hope some day our great great grandchildren will scratch their heads in wonder that back in the bad old days someone really worried about another person's skin color, or language, or sexual orientation. I hope they will find it as weird as we currently find the notion that left-handedness came from the devil.

Hmmm....what's your definition of a homophobe?

Just because I don't agree with the behavior/acts, doesn't mean I place judgement on the person(s). As an example, I think swinging is wrong. That said, whatever the couples do in their respective bedrooms is their business. I believe that has nothing to do with what else they do in their personal lives. Nor does that make me a, shall I say, swingerphobe.

As to gays in the military service, I have no problem with that. That said, though, a friend of mine told me that while he was in the service, he had to deal with some issues whereas, on more than one occasion, sabotage (resulting in some deaths) had been committed on some ships by jilted gay lovers (fellow soldiers). That seems a bit problematic to me. However, there is plenty of hetero miscreant activity taking place out there, as well.

Bottom-line to me, though, is....just because I don't like a particular act in and of itself, doesn't automatically make me some type of _____phobe.

Ooh. Adam and the Ants. Had some cool songs 30 years ago. FWIW - I do not believe he is gay, he was married multiple times and has a kid or two. He is just dressed like Johnny Depp...

Stand and Dellliiiiver, your money or your life...

Man, the early 80s post-punk/new-wave era in Britain was a kick. So many "characters".

    Remember these guys?

He DID discover it, from the perspective of the Europeans and Asians and Africans (with the exception of some Norse who didn't stick around long enough to make a difference and perhaps a world-spanning Chinese fleet).

Did anyone REALLY "discover" fire? Or anything else? It seems that nothing practical, given close enough scrutiny, has ever really been discovered.

Yeah, the cat walks around with a mouse in it's mouth. Rudy walks around with his foot in his mouth. BIG difference.
